Yeah, I'm losing my edge.
I'm losing my edge.
The kids are coming up from behind.
I'm losing my edge.
I'm losing my edge to the kids from France and from London.
But I was there.

I was there in 1968.
I was there at the first Can show in Cologne.
I'm losing my edge.
I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks.
I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978.
I'm losing my edge.

To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin.
I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia from the unremembered eighties.

But I'm losing my edge.
I'm losing my edge, but I was there.
I was there.
But I was there.

I'm losing my edge.
I'm losing my edge.
I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks.
But I was there.
I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City.
I was working on the organ sounds with much patience.
I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band.
I told him, "Don't do it that way. You'll never make a dime."
I was there.
I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids.
I played it at CBGB's.
Everybody thought I was crazy.
We all know.
I was there.
I was there.
I've never been wrong.

I used to work in the record store.
I had everything before anyone.
I was there in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan.
I was there in Jamaica during the great sound clashes.
I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988.

But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent.
And they're actually really, really nice.

I'm losing my edge.

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s.

I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record.

I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.
I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.

I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know.

But have you seen my records? This Heat, Pere Ubu, Outsiders, Nation of Ulysses, Mars, The Trojans, The Black Dice, Todd Terry, the Germs, Section 25, Althea and Donna, Sexual Harrassment, a-ha, Pere Ubu, Dorothy Ashby, PIL, the Fania All-Stars, the Bar-Kays, the Human League, the Normal, Lou Reed, Scott Walker, Monks, Niagra,

Joy Division, Lower 48, the Association, Sun Ra,
Scientists, Royal Trux, 10cc,

Eric B. and Rakim, Index, Basic Channel, Soulsonic Force ("just hit me"!), Juan Atkins, David Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Gil! Scott! Heron!, the Slits, Faust, Mantronix, Pharaoh Sanders and the Fire Engines, the Swans, the Soft Cell, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics.

You don't know what you really want.
my $.02?
i didn't get any tickets, and that's ok. i'll get some on general sale.

BUT

all you nasty little "junior members" with your two posts complaining about not getting tickets at PRESALE that you somehow feel entitled to? Come on. The presale is a favor that 930 does to reward regulars and serious fans. Oh, you didn't get tickets?? Boo hoo, let's just throw the baby out with the bathwater. Let's complain until the club says "you know what? it's not worth it." then nobody will have a chance.

bottom line?
shut up, whiners.

I actually think that's a good idea. Presales do nothing. I got tickets for Friday, but not Saturday, am I upset, no. Why? Because there is another one starting in 40mins, and the general on sale is tomorrow. I do think it is a legit gripe about the tech problems, more specifically about the link in the email. Or maybe presales should just be box office, in person only. Imagine what they did before the internet!??!?! I recall the days of arriving at the box office at 3 pm the day before tickets went on sale and sleeping in line. Ah, the good old days.
I never said I was "entitled" to anything, Chimbley. I think the frustration comes from technical glitches. I know I'll get tickets in the general sale, so I'm not worried about it. So, take your attitude and shove it up your arse. AND, just because I'm a junior member doesn't mean anything. I've been making the two hour trek up from Richmond for about 13 years now.
When does the general sale happen?

Richmond? That's nobody's fault but your own. Thanks, though, for living so far away that you have to burn fossil fuels that pollute our air, take our DC parking spaces, and potentially drive drunk or sleepy after the shows. That's lovely to know.

yep. those were fun nights.

or having the inside scoop on some obscure ticketmaster outlet in your area…like at some local university…or a Peaches Records that recently opened and no one knew it also sold concert tickets yet…
How about the time I worked with Patti Smith's brother down in Richmond?

Luckily, I'm the boss (sorta) and as long as I don't abuse it, I can come in a little late if need be, or leave early. I know that's not the case for everyone. Just remembering a less stressfull time…
Oh lord here we go again! :D

Hey, like you didn't see that coming from a mile away? I have a role to fill here, man, and I'm not about to start letting people down! ;)
well i think most of the big arena shows still sell on the weekend, and i believe camping out for tickets is an option. although most ticket outlets discourage it.
shame i had to fixed that pesky registration problem last night…

i wont apologize for being cynical and a bit callous, it's part of who i am. to all those new forum members here's a invitation to stick around. you'll have to get use to the behavior of the forum regulars as we're all a bit inbred. we are always looking for new gladitors will to take on the rest of lions. there have been special perks passed on to forum members in the past and rumoured to be more. perks including a special pixies presale, free tickets and drinks at the curiosa concert, and getting to watch a certain unamed forum member drink his way through the backbar at a private party.

full disclosure other than occasionally djing at the 9:30 and fixing the forum when it breaks, i'm not an employee of the club.

aren't you a self-important little twit! being a "member" as opposed to "junior member" somehow makes your POV more valid? i wasn't aware of the 930 caste system.
