What instrument was the crowd playing?

I was there to see The Strokes last year (?) and I thought it was a good venue. The sound was good. It all depends on your lifestyle and whether you're an urban hipster or not. To whit:

No drinks in the auditorium (don't drink)
no smoking outside while the show is on (don't smoke)
no standing while the artist is on (I'm tall. I don't need to stand to see anyone and it's not like you can dance to Ryan Adams)
the beer lines were atrocious (don't drink AND you'd really pay that much for a beer?)
bathroom lines (for my wife) just as bad (go before you come to the concert. DUH! Unless you have to go to the bathroom because of all the alcohol you've consumed. Then "Don't drink.")
the crowd were a bunch of losers (but i expect that from DC, sorry) (maybe it's not the crowd that were the losers in this case.)
and an 11pm curfew?? (MOST venues have some sort of curfew. You're spoiled by those that don't.)

Did they let you sneak in some pot? Could you take pictures with your cell phone? Did they let you smell your own farts?

Bitch, whine and complain is all some of you ever do. Did the DAR hall infringe upon your "rights" as a concert goer? Call the ACLU!

Re-read your complaints. You sound like a whiny little bitch. "Oh, I couldn't SMOKE DURING THE SHOW!" Wah-wah-wah! "The Beer lines were too LONG!" Someone give "Le Sonick" his bottle!

Brian
you sound boring as fuck.

Where did you hear great things about DAR? Certainly never on this board.
that was sacrasm. i've never heard one good thing about the place. but i was thinking "couldnt be that bad!"
yes. yes it is. i will never go back there.
DAR has nice carpeting.

dude, did you post this during Freedom Rock yesterday?

Alexandria, Va.: I've noticed your strong penchant for hipster music. Do they allow you to wear horned-rim glasses and ironic tee-shirts at the Post?

J. Freedom du Lac: No, but today *is* crotchless leather chaps day on the fourth floor.

The first set was pretty mellow. Difficult stuff to whirl around to.
I was listening to the Globe in the car the other night, and the dj said the State Theater was "a beautiful place to see a show."

I almost wet my pants with laughter.

I had 2 drunk and/or high chicks behind me yakking it up during the quiet parts of the 1st set. They were appalled when I pointed out that we'd all like to hear the concert. Something along the lines of 'Gee, you're not supposed to talk during a ROCK CONCERT!' and throwing around brilliant names such as douchebag. Odd thing is they knew the songs.

And I liked the show but I could do with less Dead/Phish jamming.
I thought the show was pretty good. I too would have liked some different songs, there was a lot I didn't recognize. Does anyone remember the set lists?
And he'll be on Letterman tomorrow night.
The second set was DEFINITELY much more of a Dead influenced set than anything I've seen them do before. I'm partial to that, personally - but I think it rooted out of a discussion backstage that probably went something like this:

Ryan: I wish the crowd would shut up. Maybe we'll stop playing.

Band: Ryan, we can't stop playing. That's how you end up on CNN.com with stories about you being a diva.

Ryan: Then how can we shut them up? OH! I KNOW! LET'S JUST NOT STOP PLAYING!! WE'LL JAM THROUGH THE WHOLE SET AND NOT GIVE THOSE ASSHOLES A CHANCE TO YELL!
heres a funny story that happened last night

between sets, i was in line for a beverage, and this girl came from the side of the line and basically stood next to me, there were a few people behind me in line, but she paid no attention to them. she was later joined by her boyfriend and as we got closer she inched herself in front of me
when we got near the front of the line, she looked over at me, surprised, as if she had JUST noticed me and said

"oh, did i butt in front of you in line"

i said "you sure did"

she said "you dont have to be a dick about it"

i really wanted to retaliate or somehow emasculate the little balding guy she was with, but …. i dont know, she ordered white wine for the both of them, and he paid…so i figured he was having a bad enough night.
Rhett and his wife were there?

come to think of it….
Sorry, I would never allow my wife to spend our money on overpriced drinks at a show.

Regarding box set: I read in PASTE next year late winter/early spring.

It was a good show, but not what I expected. Diversifying the format of the songs was cool, the band is pretty talented. But, I missed hearing a few songs in their "regular" format. The last few notes, it was overdone and I was ready to go.

(Sonick - I thought you would dig the second half! Infact, I thought Rhett may have even liked the show since the songs from "Easy Tiger" were not performed in the same manner as the recording.)

Surprisingly, no complaints from me about DAR this time. I had a bit of traveling to do but under the circumstances, it was doable.
Except, in the theater it was a bit cold (better than being hot, I guess.)

The crowd — I thought it was just me! (Besides half the crowd showing up near 9 o'clock…)
All right, if a person decides to take a seat that has gone unoccupied all night, it's not really my concern. However, when someone is trying to return to their PAID seat, could you please let them in and out? What about "Excuse me" or "I need to get to my seat" and pointing is confusing to you?

Sorry I didn't see you guys. How do we always manage that after multiple texts/calls? :p Thanks for all your help though.
Thankfully, CJ (BY.net) was able to go…or I would have been a lonely patron.
