smoking?

hangovers are great!

I feel sad for people who drink.
I was a fairly heavy smoker for almost 15 years. It is true - smokers do enjoy their ciggies. I know I did. After a while though, well I just didn't enjoy it as much. And my view of smoking and smokers changed drastically over time - it just didn't seem like a very bright thing to do for so many reasons, probably the least of which was health, although that was still a huge reason to quit.

- it was inconvenient. the care and feeding of a pack a day + smoking habit takes quite a bit of effort, esp in this day and age where you can't smoke in a lot of places.

- it's dirty and smelly. my clothes stunk. my house stunk. Also, I would see all these people littering with their butts and see butts on the ground and i just didn't want to be a part of that anymore. I was pretty good about putting butts in ashtrays/trash or just putting them in my pocket for later disposal if nothing else was available, but still, contributing to all the dirt and debris created by smoking didnâ??t sit well with me.

- Letâ??s face it â?? big tobacco companies are among the most evil corporations on the earth. They make billions off a product that has killed literally millions of people. Knowing I was no longer supporting these scum-sucking pigs was all the inspiration I needed sometimes while I was trying to quit.

- And smoking is really bad for you. Ever known someone with emphysema or lung cancer? Not a pretty picture seeing someone try with all their might to breathe but still not get any air.

All that said, Iâ??m still against smoking bans. I think if you own a building you should get to decide what people can and canâ??t do inside it. Smoking doesnâ??t bother me that much at shows, unless Iâ??m sick maybe, and I donâ??t think a venues smoking policy has affected my decision to go to a show, either before or after I quit.
Your post reminds me of that scene in the movie Wild At Heart where they talk about how all of their relatives have died of smoking-related illnesses.

Love that movie….
heh… "nice-tits dot org?" I think I'd best wait til I'm not at work to click on that one. :D
I must say, shows in NYC without smoke are pretty awesome. it's definitely a better environment without it, and it feels like fewer people are smoking.

I'm a former smoker who will still have one when I drink a certain amount…if there's no one smoking around me, I don't even think about it.

I'm wary of a ban. I'm torn, too – selfishly, it helps me out to have no smoking allowed, but I remember how much I loved and enjoyed my cigs during a show (the thing to remember is, at a show, there's liquor, and for many smokers the liquor makes it nigh near impossible to refrain from smoking as well).

Tough question, very tough question.

if people enjoyed taking dumps in the middle of your club would you allow that?
people might slip on it - insurance issue
well, I don't know about you people but I'm not a smoker at all and it's not my style. I don't have time for smoke.
