I LOVE the song, and the other that they've posted to the
Podsafe Music Network "I want to hear what you've got to say".
Featured both on my podcast tonight,
Get Jacked! I'm going, even though I'm old and haven't been to a club in years. $10 for a 3 piece band that ROCKS is a small price to pay. heck the Stones were $400. I did not go. And my license plate says "SHALUBY".

- Anyone know anything about The Shys?
Um, next time we're hanging at a show that Betty's going to be at. Promise? And I'll leave before y'all start drinking :)

Betty, you can watch me drink. Really, I have no problem with that – lots of people do it. ;)

http://www.myspace.com/theshysmusic MORE MUSIC FROM THE SHYS
"The Gun Shys dig a little bit further back in the influence closet and call upon the glory days of The Rolling Stones, T-Rex, The Stone Roses, and David Bowie to help set the direction towards the future."-swizzel-stick "I want my rock lean, primal, and loud. The Gun Shys deliver on all three, making mincemeat of other more commercially known bands reveling in a so-called â??classicâ? sound. Their sound is confident, swaggering, yet tuneful, never once threatening to run out of gas or crossing over into parody. There are echoes of the great period of The Rolling Stones here."-staticmultimedia â??The gun shys demonstrate a real raw talent, there is something refreshingly punk about the way the band skewers and attacks pop melodies unafraid of being catchy and uncompromising with the productionâ?-Daily Titian "The Gun Shys' EP is uncommonly assured and cohesive, especially considering its makers are between the ages of 20 and 21. Trading on Stones-y swagger and BRMC's fuzz-saturated menace, songs like "Two Cent Facts" and "The Usual Unusuals" pulse with genuine grit and peril. These newer songs are further proof that the band is progressing at a startlingly fast clip."- Pop Matters

Well, I'm a bit perturbed.
On the Main page, it says "Subways, 7:30"
I get there about 8:15, and it's already over. So I'm out $10 for parking, and saw nothing. I heard the last notes of "Rock and Roll Queen" while I walked up. Being that Doors for the next show aren't till 10…WTF?
I guess I just don't know the SOP for the place. And never will.

For those nights when there's an early and a late show, the settimes are the settimes because they have to gear up for the next show. It's kind of hard to be pissed at a band for going on at the time they are supposed to. Plus, we're talking about a band with one record out. How long are they supposed to play?

SOP is that we generally try to get bands on at the time listed on the website.

what a pleasant surprise tonight's show was. heard a lot of hype over this band while in france/england, but never listened to their music. i decided to give it a go at the last minute and it was probably the best time i couldve had for $10 outside of buying a cheap bottle of vodka, a lot of imagination, and a few regrets the next morning. lots of energy and a cute bunch to boot. also, the shys were very good too…good entertainment music all in all.

The crowd was so anemic that I had a hard time getting into the concert. The pre-encore applause was the worst I can recall at a concert in a long time. I think I was the only one even applauding within 25 feet of where I was standing. I actually thought they might not come back on stage due to the anemic response. I think the vast majority of those attending had only heard "Rock and Roll Queen". I really wish I had arrived earlier so I could have been closer to the stage. That would have helped, I think. That said, they played with a lot of energy and seemed to be enjoying themselves. That was good to see. The show was really short, but it was only $10, so I guess I got my money's worth. A good warm-up for the March/April concert-going season.

when has the crowd at 930 ever been non-anemic? prob never, though i did see that it was particularly worse-than-average in the back on ground floor and on the upper level (which i was on), esp for such a big turnout. sometimes it's a total buzzkill but i try not to sweat it. the subways performed with just enough energy to overcome the lack of it in the crowd. heavy mainstream british rivalry btwn arctic monkeys and the subways. right now id have to say i prefer the latter (for no reason other than the fact that i saw them live) cause i havent seen the former perform, nor do i get the hype behind their music purely. it's somewhere btwn ok and pants. also, rock & roll queen is not their best song. it was aiiight at best.

from my vantage point in the DJ booth it did appear that energy was lower for the type of show it was. kinda of like the white stripes at the smith center a few weeks back where it was younger crowd going their first concerts not quite sure what to do. i will say that a half hour after the show the band was still chatting and taking pictures with fans in the bobby and selling merchandise. clearily a meet the band and run home and post about it on myspace crowd…
the shys were ok, had the look and the sound, but were missing the attitude/swagger… kinda like the pat boone of the "rock" revial.
d setlist later this afternoon.
