Was that a Brainiac song in there, between the Shys and Subways? A couple after the Stooges' Down on the Street, which was a great song to hear.
I liked both bands a lot. The Shys seemed pretty polished with the look, the songs and the frontman. Their name sucks though. The Subways were really good too. Great night for $10, and I was psyched that I was home in time to put the kid to bed. God I'm old.

the shys were ok, had the look and the sound, but were missing the attitude/swagger… kinda like the pat boone of the "rock" revial.

Kosmo, i'll have you know that i was at that Stripes show with friends, and we were all dancing! but the crowds here are horrible. sometimes i'll be in the only bunch dancing, and sometimes i don't feel like being the only bunch dancing–that can be kind of obnoxious, you know? but the fact of the matter is that you shouldn't HAVE to be the one little group or whatever at a show that is actually having fun. and that, it sucks when you see a really great live band and the show ends up totally stinking because the crowd is just balls. no matter what your vibe is, if everyone else is standing rigidly texting their friends throughout, it can die pretty quickly.
other then that Electric Six show recently (where practically everyone was dancing) i have been coming home from shows feeling completely empty in the last few months. you can go out and see your favorite band in the entire world, but if no one else is having fun, it's almost not worth it.
(unless you're a huge nerd like i am and go anyway)

So everyone who doesn't dance and go beserk isn't having a good time? I would disagree with that. Sure, it's lame if someone is talking loudly the whole time, or constantly taking photos or texting. But just because some members of the crowd aren't pogoing doesn't mean they are not having fun.
I'm on my feet all day every day, and I usually go running or biking before a show, which itself usually involves anywhere between 3 and 5 hours of standing. I'm there to hear and see a band, so the teenie-boppers will have to forgive me if I, and others, choose not to hop all over the place.

no, that's not what i meant. i meant people being rude and talking the whole time. having a good time can be expressed sometimes by dancing, but it doesn't always have to be.
and, call me a teenybopper once more and i'll castrate you.

first old age has sent twas the white stripes show a few Years back..
i don't think dancing is required as show of energy, maybe it's more of being completely dumbstruck by getting to see a concert that leaves some EMOtionless.
no brainiac, didn't want to scary the TEENYBOPPERS to much and i only had a hour to work with, so it might have been the Fleshtones..

I would have liked to have seen the show but it was way too early for me. In fact, I was in town which made me consider going even more but I wasn't logging off and billing my time until The Subways were walking off the stage.
Oh, well. Another good show lost to the Fates.
For the most part, early shows are just not doable for me.

Fun show. Lead guy had a nice voice. Good energy, and that female bass player had great rock hair. Lot of really young kids in attendance. I think a junior high class field trip walked by me.
This was my first early show and it was definitely a change of pace. We were out of there by 8:30. Weird. I wonder if the club only schedules early shows when the bands are young and aren't expected to have hours of material. I'm also curious what impact a double show has on revenues. Do two separate crowds tend to drink more than one single crowd?
Speaking of revenues, let's hear it for those $6 beers. I think my days of drinking at the club are about over. Good thing I live close.

Dancing isn't required to show you appreciate a performance. However, it would seem to me that if people were having a good time that they could at least applaud, especially before the encore or at the end of the show, if not between every song. Like I said, I was the only one applauding in the vicinity of where I was standing. That just seemed ridiculous to me. Either they were too cool or they just weren't into it. I don't know. The crowd around me didn't even come alive until they played "Rock and Roll Queen". I'm certainly not going to blame the Subways, who put on a very good show.

Oh, they did a video shoot for the local access show "Pancake Mountain" so there should be two songs from them on that kids show. Fun bands.

I can't understand all the complaints about the crowd – I'm pretty sure both the Shys and the Subways said we were the best audience ever.

DC seems to have that effect on lots of bands….

I have a theory on this 'lack of energy' – I think the Saturday night, $10 early show that wasn't going to sell out is what's going on here. I know for me, I sent out an email on Friday that this show wasn't selling out, set times were early so you could do something afterwards, blah blah, and I ended up having 8 friends decide basically last minute to "check them out." So sure, a lot of folks only knew "Rock n Roll Queen." And I think that's okay, maybe they made some fans. But I'm assuming these kind of factors made for a more "pensive" than in to it crowd for a band like this.
I enjoyed the show – they put a lot of energy out there, and do what they do just fine. I always expected a 45-50 minute show. It delivered, and I got a good night at DC9 for the shank of the evening.

so, if tickets were $1.05, would it be worth it? that's how much tickets will be for the show out here in san francisco.

Absolutely. I thought they were worth $10.
