Song[s] of the year '07

This song has snuck into my morning routine:

Wow, I didn't expect anyone else to list this one. Definitely on mine. Though there are some other contenders on that album - "Daybreak" and "Favourite One" are also really good.

Yeah - they write great songs. Live, I think they're a little lacking due to some performance issues…but I need to pick up the album.

God Put A Smile Upon Your Face - Mark Ronson
as in the coldplay song?!?
as in the sweet horns cover that he arranged.
have you not heard his album? it's all covers - he took a bunch of stuff and made it very jazzy/hip-hoppy/soulish. i was never sure that i'd love a full album of covers so much, but this one really grew on me…the album's really fun, and one of my favorites of the year.

Ugh! Lily Allen's cod reggae version of The Kaiser Chief's "Oh, My God" is about as bad as a cover version can get. I was so repulsed by it I couldn't listen to the rest of the album. I've never heard "Valerie."

I refuse to do "Songs of the Year," "10 Top Discs of 2007," etc. Although, I did like "Teenagers" by My Chemical Romance and "Hey There, Delilah" by Plain White T's.

Not to be nitpicky, but Hey There, Delilah came out far before this year… of course I was seeing PWTs over 6 years ago. heh. I know they went through and hashed this out, but 2001 =/= 2007.

Though I am happy to see them getting some airplay, they weren't/aren't the best band out of that scene and in that I'm kinda pissed that better ones aren't making it out.

As for songs, I don't have much. I have very much enjoyed the Sarah McLachlan/Cyndi Lauper mashup of Time after Time; Pat McGee Band's got several good ones off "The Virginia Sessions", Interpol's new cd does too…. I really haven't felt much, if at all, new music that moved me or made me want to go "omg, this fucking rocks" this year. Hoping next year will do that, though.
I've also recently become obsessed with "Thanks I Get," one of the Sky Blue Sky bonus cuts Wilco released.
