Melt Banana and Lou Reed?

yeah, probably didn't look buff enough.

(sorry, charlie)
so did lou reed go on when the opener would have? trying to plan for tomorrow.
Wait…

How'd you know he would play 12 songs? Did it actually say so in the set times thing on the 930 site the day of (I was out of town so I missed it)? Very bizarre if so.

doesn't sound like much of a value…
well i knew what he had played at the previous show in boston area…12 songs…
Just got back from the Richmond show. Had some reservations going in as to whether this was worth the money or whether this was one of those "going to be able to say I saw them, even though they're way past their prime" shows, and it certainly exceeded all expectations. Still very talented.

Our setlist differed a bit from the 930 setlist. From the best I can piece together…

Mad
Sweet Jane
I'm Set Free
Ecstacy
I'm Sticking With You
The Power Of The Heart
Satellite Of Love
Walk On The Wild Side
Halloween Parade
Video Violence
Guardian Angel
Magic And Loss

Pale Blue Eyes

Satellite Of Love, Ecstacy, and Pale Blue Eyes were all highlights. Magic And Loss and Walk On The Wild Side were excellent too. The new song was pretty too.
Brilliant show in Richmond. Probably just 12 or so songs, but they played nearly two hours. The National was a nice setting - big theater w/ big stage. Room on the floor. The band took their time with the songs and let them breathe.

Steve Hunter on lead guitar and Tony Smith on drums were smoking. Hunter reminded me of a golden retriever just waiting to run around. When the door was open - as it was on Mad, Sweet Jane and Video Violence in particular, he just ran around w/ a shit eating grin like a retriever chasing squirrels, catching balls and what not. Awesome, awesome stuff. You just couldn't help but smile when he let loose.

With that band, the songs are incidental. Any framework for them to paint will work. But Mad, Sweet Jane, I'm Set Free Satellite of Love, Halloween Parade, Walk on the Wild Side (!), Video Violence and Pale Blue Eyes(!!) were exceptional.

Reminded me a bit of Bob Dylan's show at 9:30 4 years ago. There was a wistful romantic theme. Makes sense, since apparently Lou married Laurie Anderson this month.

It was funny to hear people scream for Venus in Furs or European Son. Great songs, but totally at odds with the 'vibe' of the show. Very much a VU s/t vibe. Obviously there were a million songs that could have been played, but like a good album, only certain songs fit.

Good crowd. Almost no talking, even in the sedate moments. It seemed most the people had their own memories of Lou's music and appreciated hearing what Lou age 66 - and his awesome band - had to deliver.
still the question i wanna know is what happend to melt banana

I thought I had heard it was a visa issue. I don't recall where I heard that, though.

Nope - read the text:
We did record Reed's entire performance at the 9:30 Club and planned to post it here. But in the end, he decided to share a different show with us and the All Songs Considered concert series. The performance featured here was recorded at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ on April 24 by his engineer, Chris Bailey.

They did *finally* approve a couple of our photos though, but I didn't bother update the review with them.

Is this on dime?
hmmm… the posting of the existence of this recording falls in a very grey area, granted no direct link is provided, but if audio recordings weren't allowed of this show then it's probably not the best idea to leave any info posted here about it… or am i over functioning as usual…
Fair enough.

And…clear out some PM's.
