Going to Super Furry Animals in NY or NJ?

I'll be at one/both of those SFA shows. I kind of lost track of my September calendar, so I'm playing everything by ear week-of. I live up here though, so…so much for that cheap gas option.

Megabus / Boltbus it!

I wish I could have taken Megabus.  But I'm leaving from Richmond, and when considering the cost/effort necessary in getting from Richmond to DC to catch the Megabus, it just made more sense to book the Greyhound from Richmond.
bus is lookin good thanks for the input.  what time you gettin there gaaaaaaaaah?  best to get to the club by subway or taxi or what?
My bus is scheduled to get to NYC around 3, I believe.  I'm not sure how I'll get from the Greyhound station to the show.  It's only a mile and a half or so, if I remember correctly.  I've never been to New York, so I might just walk it.

For any NYC regulars/residents, how late would the Subway be running after the show?  As of now, my return trip (was gonna stay with a friend, that didn't work out) leaves NYC at 1:45 AM Saturday.  I'm hoping I can catch the Subway after the show.  Possible?
Subway runs all night. Noob :)
I'd find something to do after the show. You won't want to wait in that bus station for over two hours.

Thanks.  Rookie question, I'll admit.  But good to know.

Even if the show ends around midnight, I'll have plenty of time to get to the station, which is my main concern.  So I'll look into something to do to kill some time.

Does this mean the Greyhound station is a less than desirable place to wait for a long amount of time?
It's not dangerous or anything; just unpleasant.

You're bound to find something more enjoyable than waiting in a gross bus station (the gate is in the basement and you're forced to either stand or sit on a dirty floor while you're waiting down there with no phone service) in NYC. I never have a problem doing so, at least.
Hmm…good to know, thanks.

I'll find something.  Looks like an easy and quick subway trip from the venue to the station, so it looks as if I shan't be rushed for time.
you can catch the a/c/e to 14th and just walk west (towards the water). its not exactly 'close' to the subway as someone once commented to me - but I live out on 10th avenue (its all relative).

subways run 24/7 but as it gets later in the eve the service has been sucking lately. theres a lot of work being done, so just make sure the one you need is running at that time (and if all else fails theres the cab solution or just walking). its safe enough to walk around this city.

Yea, if all else fails, I'm more than fine with a 30 minute walk.

it's not interesting or nice, but it's not dangerous either.  if you're in NYC you can do so much better for yourself.  i don't know of any interesting bars around port authority bus terminal, whereas from the highline ballroom you'll be steps away from the meatpacking district, chelsea, west village, etc.  hang out there after the show and grab a subway 30 mins before your bus (or a cab 20 mins before).

do yourself a favor: know which gate your return bus is leaving from.  arriving at the station at 1:30 am and trying to figure out which gate you need to be at can nerve-wracking as the seconds to departure tick away…
^I've done this before. Fun times.
Then there was the time when Joe and I got to the 1:45 bus only to find out that it was full and that we had to wait until 3:45. It was Joe's fault. Because it's always Joe's fault.
major fail on your part, buddy. You forgot to get in line downstairs. You were a wet duckling upstairs waiting for me. And you did not read the disclaimer in the back of the ticket about being first-come first served. FAIL.

Still, your fault.
Thanks for all this.

So, basically, if I know what gate I'm leaving from, and don't need to go through will call or anything, I can show up at the station pretty close to the actual departure time?

Also a Greyhound rookie, so bear with me here.
Another opener added to the set:
The March Fourth!

you'll want your bus ticket in hand  - buy a return trip ticket so you don't need to deal with the ticket office on the way back.

i might be wrong here, but i believe that most greyhound buses don't have reserved seating - it's first come first serve, and they don't guarantee you a spot even if you have a ticket.  so you might not want to arrive 2 minutes before departure if there is any concern of the bus selling out.  please call greyhound  (or whatever other bus service you're using) to confirm this

otherwise, if there are empty seats then yeah you can roll on in just a few minutes before departure time.

Yea, I already have my tickets.  Considering it's a bus leaving at 1:45 Saturday morning, I don't think it'll be that high demand, but I may call Greyhound and see if this is true.
