Going to Super Furry Animals in NY or NJ?

Yea, I already have my tickets.

excellent, one less thing for you to worry about at 1:40 AM.

Considering it's a bus leaving at 1:45 Saturday morning, I don't think it'll be that high demand

it's NYC on a saturday night… chances of other folks doing the same as you (seeing a show/going out, then taking a bus home instead of spending the night) are pretty good.  no idea if there are enough to sell out a bus, but remember that NYC is the city that never sleeps… we ain't in DC no more :P
Don't know if anyone's interested in a review, but this was an incredible show.  They just felt like they clicked more than at the 930 show last year, which was still a great performance.  Highlight of the night for me was an insanely epic performance of Crazy Naked Girls, followed by Gruff playing Fire In My Heart by himself, while they fixed the PA system.  It wasn't on the setlist, and I never thought I'd get to see that one done live.  Good stuff. A pretty well constructed setlist, too.  The new songs they played work really well live, and all the older classics sounded as great as always.  And they played Blerwytirhwng?

Great crowd.  Everyone seemed really into the entire set.  There was definitely some energy there that was lacking in DC last year.

As for getting there in the first place, Richmond to New York and back within 24 hours is rough.  Definitely worth it, but all those hours on Greyhound buses add up.  Getting around NYC was a piece of cake, so thanks anyone who pitched in suggestions.

Setlist, if anyone cares:

Slow Life
Rings Around the World
Juxtapozed With U
Golden Retriever
Hello Sunshine
Mt.
Moped Eyes
Demons
If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You
Inaugural Trams
The Very Best Of Neil Diamond
White Socks/Flip Flops
Pric
Earth
Blerwytirhwng?
The International Language of Screaming
Neo-Consumer
God! Show Me Magic
Crazy Naked Girls
Earth (reprise)
Fire In My Heart (just Gruff onstage for most of the song)
The Man Don't Give A Fuck (started at the first drum break–>chorus section, actually)
Keep The Cosmic Trigger Happy

Overall, amazing show.  Hopefully they do a full-on US tour next year.  I'd love to see them in DC again.
Agreed.

Show was really awesome. Gruff sounded really good when the sound was working, but half the time it was pretty bad. Vocals were non-existent at least in the middle of the room. Was a really great setlist and a 2 hour show was really perfect. They played a great mix of stuff and not one of us left disappointed. The International Language of Screaming was really great and loved Crazy Naked Girls. Im always happy when I hear Rings Around The World. I thought there were a few other songs played that arent on the setlist, but I could be wrong.

The openers left a lot to be desired. The first band was really bad and the lead singer couldnt hold a note to save his life. Although "my new favorite color is fabulous" has become a joke with friends. That was a pretty amusing song. Real Estate were ok, but overall pretty boring. So totally disappointed with openers, but SFA was completely worth it.
Maxwell's show was great. Same setlist as the friday show (minus Fire in My Heart). Mix sounded good except on Inaugural Trams…couldn't hear the keyboard which is one of the main components of that song. Nothing off Hey Venus and would have liked to have heard a few more off the new album (Cardiff in the Sun, Where Do You Wanna Go > Lliwiau Llachar.

Also, I wish they would retire The Man Don't Give a Fuck and play something like She's Got Spies or Mountain People for their last song. Or The Door to this House Remains Open. Something like that.
I'm fine with TMDGAF sticking around.  It's a great song, and the crowd gets super into it.

However, I'd love to see them bring back the "orangely out of its head" techno freakout Mountain People finale.

As for the openers, I didn't love or hate them.  They were about as expected for two young local bands.  Not terrible, but I'd never listen to them in another setting.  There were good moments, though, I thought.

I'm surprised they've ditched Hey Venus stuff so quickly.  We got Neo-Consumer, and that was it.  And nothing from Love Kraft, so no Zoom.  Which is a shame.  But I could nitpick forever on a perfect Furries setlist.  This was a good mix of their whole catalogue, popular and obscure.
LOL @ "my new favorite color is FABULOUS".  SFA were amazing.  the openers unbearably bad esp. the first band. they had that one song that was literally 4 minutes of just "na na na na na na na na."  I realized I'm lucky enough to have never heard an opening band so bad for many years.  I agree SFA should retire TMDGAF.  I'm not sure why everybody reacts so well to it.  I jump around sure but just for the fun of it, not because I'm especially into the song.  I'm pretty sure I remember them playing Fire in My Heart live at least once in DC before.  Really enjoyed Demons and If You Don't Want  Me to Destroy You.  Wish they'd played Helium Hearts.  Great time!

Oh, the Kaiser Chiefs opened?
The Furries NOT playing DC - well that's a first…. what the Welsh no longer like performing here (that's Manics jab)??  I must admit I didn't really care for the latest album, so … oh well… no real loss.
Well, it wasn't even a real tour, so it's not really a case of skipping DC.  They were booked for ATP, and they scheduled two nearby shows for the weekend.  That's it.

And DD/LY is excellent.

DD/LY is the first album where the songs weren't memorable in the slightest IMO.
I disagree entirely.  I think it's one of their overall best sets of songs yet.  It doesn't really sound like the rest of their catalogue, but it still sounds like SFA.

I've considered it very near the top of their list, honestly.  It still sounds fresh whenever I listen to it.

And live, the songs were just ridiculously great.

channeling the Beach Boys …

okay I'm wrong the only song that is memorable is the one about the 'Big F—ing Mountian'  ;D
And channeling the Beach Boys makes it un-SFA?

They've always been pretty clear where they take influences from, the Beach Boys being high on the list.  But they aren't one of those bands who just make the same records their influences made, over and over again.

And as far as the Beach Boys influence goes, it's not near as prominent on DD/LY as past Furries records.

oh definately no, I'm all for them breaking their own mold, but all the songs on DD/LY sound the same - that's the prob I have with the release.  Granted how Gruff made impressive solo albums and Neon Neon - DD/LY sounds like a step backwards in my opinion.
Meh, I think the songs are all wonderful in their own way.  But I do see how it can put off some fans.  I, however, love it, and easily put it as number one this year.  It's pointless for me to rank the SFA/Gruff albums, since I love them all so much, and my preference changes day-to-day, but I'd have DD/LY towards the top.

This is how I felt about Phantom Power and Love Kraft. Then Gruff won me back over with Candylion, Neon Neon, Hey Venus, now DD/LY. He's been on an incredible roll the last few years.
