For those who may not follow hip hop to closely, its been the trend for the past few years to re-create the 80s and 90s.

That's not limited to Hip-Hop!

Thanks for the elaboration though. Obviously, you are well aware that some of us are sort of clueless with the genre. (Yeah, I'm looking at myself. lol)

Oh no doubt. I know that a lot of the kids try to bring the ugly-ass neon colored suits and the bad haircuts athe dance clubs. But in hip hop, its been pretty widespread. I think its finally wearing thin but it'll take some time.
i don't know who the klaxons are or if they are any good, but i just realized they released an album with this on the cover

so i guess i'll give them a chance.  or should i not . . . and just stare at the album?
^^ definitely a good band ;)
hmmm… if Walky is basing albums by their covers then here is one he might like  ;D
hmmm . . . not enough cat.  ;D  and just who does that cat think he is anyway, paul from sgt. pepper?

I liked "Surfing the Void".  It's not as good as "Myths of Near Future" but few albums are.

I disagree with the collective ejaculation regarding Mr. West.  I've listened to that album five or six times and I just don't get it.  Putting aside the Summer's Eve that flows through his veins, I don't hear "genius."  I hear the rap "Chinese Democracy."

My theory is that music critics love more than anything a proper "rock" star who validates myths and behaves poorly.  The reasons Kanye's album is topping EVERY year end poll is the same reason that if look back on polls from the 90's, a lot of Hole albums are up there.  Two, three years from now we'll look back on our entire "Kanye phase" with embarassment.

However, getting back to the Klaxons.  Here's one of the better live mash-ups.  "Golden Skans" vs. a song you're sick of hearing.  Whatever happened to her?

Jaguar and Killsaly, you both have to grab this if you haven't already:
Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Love Is A Stream

I am only two tracks in but am pretty sure both of you will love it.
Sade - Soldier of Love album…apart from the title track, this is such a boring album.
after watching that harp playing joanna newsom on letterman and then just now hearing a song by her on sirius, i now like her and want her last album.  how odd.
There's nothing in my history of liking shit that suggests I would like Joanna Newsom and yet I like her a lot. Loved the 6th and I show from earlier in the year.
I've tried countless times to delve into Have One on Me and cannot for the life of me get it to hold my attention for more than 2-3 songs.
Ditto.  People need to start realizing her first album is flawless and that everything after is pretty blech.  I gave Ys the benefit of the doubt, but after hearing that new one, it turns out they're both pretty boring and nonsensical.  Like the Matrix sequels.

Thought YS was pretty good.

Firebutt McGee/ixkpd-bk's rendition of "Emily" is about 37 times better than the original, though.
were the matrix sequels the worst follow ups that could have been so much more, in movie history?  even worse than star wars one through three?  thanks for the heads up on the harpy . . . i check out her first album instead.
Chemical Brothers Further was probably my favorite release of the year
I think so re: the Matrix sequels.  I think the second movie could have been amazing…if it wasn't followed up and explained by that awful last one.

Even though I unabashedly love JN's first album…it's definitely not for everyone.  I think I've finally beaten my wife down enough to like it, but I think her voice definitely makes it a difficult listen for most.  Much more minimal than the follow-ups, and that's mostly what I like about it.  Plus, her songwriting isn't bogged down by too much pretension on that first album.  I mean, Ys has some great lyrical content too, but it's so much more direct on the Milk-Eyed Mender. IMO.
