The 2010 Albums Thread

Just listened to 3/4 of this while doing a lunchtime run and… sadly I found it pretty listless and boring, which is how I felt about the last one. The first one was so good too. Not sure if they changed or I did.

The first 2010 release that I really like
Kind of a mix of white-girl garage soul with guitar jam freak-outs that approach Comets on Fire-levels of awesomeness

From Stella Luna

"We are in the studio beginning work on releases for 2010."

This is both shocking and wonderful news for we Shoegazers as their sole EP, Stargazer, is often held in the highest esteem within it's genre. They were supposed to release something in 2002 but that never happened. To everyone's knowledge, they had fallen off the face of the earth as no one knew anything about what had happened to them and there were no signs of anything musical from this band. The exception is that there was word that they are 'perfectionists'. That was all. Not a thing more. The above quote was just posted by the band about 2 weeks ago and I just happened to stumble across it last night while doing a little research for some other project I'm involved in. No fanfare; just a simple little quote.

Sonic Boom is producing the new MGMT album. Why, Peter, why?
Trembling Blue Stars

… are working on a new album but don't know if it will be out by the end of the year. They still have plenty of time so it may well make it.

Oh, and…

A Place To Bury Strangers

… have a new album which should be out in the near future.
So Jag, do you think Sonic Boom will make MGMT listenable or will they still suck even with him on production?

Honestly, I don't see it making for much of a change in their sound. Supsect that it's more of an association thing on both their parts than any real musical enhancements.

This only confirms to me something that I've suspected for a long time. For all the 'coolness' (take that anyway you want), musical influence, drug involments (don't assume that's positive), and other musical associations that Sonic Boom has had, at heart, he's a bit of a mainstream preppie who got sidetracked early on by the real Spacehead, Jason Pierce.
I just read that Kevin Shields was collaborating with Weller no more than a couple hours ago.

If only he would stop procrastinating w/r/t getting his own shit done.
Has anyone heard the new Massive Attack yet? I know, can't get to stores, no deliveries, etc….
oh right, thanks for reminding me.  i've been meaning to listen to that one… too much music in the queue.  i'll let you know what i think in 52:58.
I thought it was pleasant.
