Rock Band and Guitar Hero are for posers. The true fans of music-based video games play:

Is anyone using their PS3 to primarily watch Blu-Ray movies? I was considering getting a Blu-ray player in the near future but it would appear that the PS3 is the best bet going at the moment. Also, is worth spending the extra money for PS2 compatibility.
I should of course hold off on Blu-ray until Lord of the Rings arrives, maybe by then the price of players will have come down a bit.

i have both a 360 and PS3 (and wii). I pretty much only use the PS3 to watch Blu-Ray movies. I use the 360 to play games…and the Wii has become a paper weight.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 will only send bitstream of new hi res audio codecs, so if your reciever can not internally decode the formats you can't take advantage of them In the case that you're reciever can't decode you'll need a player with 5.1 analog outs.
If audio is important to you (and believe me if it is you'll love the new codecs when done well they sound amazing)and your reciever can't do this i'd pass on the PS3 as a BR player. That aside, it is by all accounts a really good player for the $$, esp. considering it doubles as a gaming console.

I wouldn't buy a blu-ray player at all, but that's a topic for a different thread.

I was trying to figure out exactly what the analog outputs on the PS3 were
My receiver is older than dirty and at the moment I'm only using center+left+right with no subwoofer. I believe it does support 5.1 analog, guess I'd better check that.
It's gonna be awhile before I'm able to update the receiver, put new speakers in place, etc. Picture quality is more important to Kosmette, as is not having speaker wires running all over the place. The room with the TV isn't exactly large so trying to size sound for it is going to take some work as well as planning seeing that all the walls are concrete.

Man, I hope they include
The Real Me just to see which is harder - emulating Moon or Entwistle!

according to the who
web page, the songs are:
TRACKS: The Best of The Who Rock Band Editionâ?
â??Amazing Journeyâ?
â??Baba O'Rileyâ?
â??Behind Blue Eyesâ?
â??Eminence Frontâ?
â??Going Mobileâ?
â??Leaving Hereâ?
â??My Generationâ? (LIVE)
â??Real Good Looking Boyâ?
â??Sea & Sandâ?
â??Summertime Bluesâ? (LIVE)
â??Who Are Youâ?
â??Young Man Bluesâ? (LIVE)
(All tracks utilize the original master recordings)
i think they had problems locating the original masters for alot of stuff, for example, i know they can't find the entire 2nd side of "who's next"

Got the go ahead to get a PS3 from kosmette and need to jump on the opportunity quickly…
Trying to decide whether or not it's worth while getting the models with PS2 support.
Are there any really compelling PS2 games that are worth picking up to play on a PS3?

Hard to say. I will say that Gods of War I and II were superior games. And while I didn't play it a great deal, Shadow of the Colossus was an amazing game.
I've spent months debating whether to get the PS3 or X360, and I never did come to a conclusion. The X360 has the games, but it also has the dread 3 Red Rings of Death. The PS3 has the blu-ray and the reliability, but so far the games have been meager, and the quality exclusives almost nil.

I'm not denying that aren't any good games for the PS2, just curious as whether there are enough to justify getting the 80GB PS3 with emulation or not.
I had figured the prices of used PS2 games had dropped enough so that bargains could be had. But after checking the used prices at Gamestop of Metacritic's top rated games, it would appear the bottom hasn't dropped out yet as most used titles games run between $10 and $20.
Am interested in the GTA series, but could easily get that for a PC if I wanted to play the older titles.
I don't buy that many games and am more than willing to wait for a game worth buying to come out.
Am also not that interested in online play…
