Record Store Day - 21 April 2018

There is nothing I am dying for this year…. but as more vinyl is being released there are less RSD exclusives to get crazy about…

The Luna penthouse RSD release from last year is killer but I found it a few weeks ago at mobius…discounted…why more are not into great bands like Luna and feelies remains a mystery
CD Cellar is good? I have worked down the street for 4 years and never been. I guess I should plan a lunch there.
Woke up at 3:30am and debated trekking out to get in line. Since I'm not chasing the Floyd or Bowie titles I decided to go later today or tomorrow.

Anybody in line this morning?
No one bought a damn thing. RSD is dead.
Nah. Went out around 3pm and got everything I wanted (meaning, not much). Store was still doing good business so at least from my limited view it was a success.
hopscotch in the a.m. and mobius in the p.m.
got what i wanted and had an enjoyably low key experience.
bowies, neil, floyd, laraaji, stooges and recutting the crap vol. 2.

From the perspective of the record stores I think it works quite well!

In years past, these RSD threads were chock fulla posts of acquisitions. It may be only once a year but fatigue has set in.
It’s just not hip no more….for many reasons

But I went today and what I wanted was gone and store was most happy

I'm sure that the store is especially grateful to not have a bunch of questionable (and unreturnable) crap left over. Stores have probably caught onto the scam by now.

Now I'm wondering what the stores didn't take the bait on. What titles were so dodgy that the labels are eating them themselves?
I am an avid record collector with about 20,000 titles and I am pretty anti-RSD but you take the cake!!!

I spent $37 today but not one RSD title.

Every day is RSD for me
I used to think RSD was a great idea, but it became entirely insular and co-opted by the majors. It's entire raison d'être has been erased. I'm definitely not alone in that assessment, and I'm far from the most critical. Ask an artist/label that can't get their wares pressed for months on end because of all the RSD shit. Oh, your record unexpectedly blew up and already sold out of its 200 copy pressing and you can't get more pressed for 4 months? Bummer, dude….

I bought one thing yesterday, Ashley Paul's latest. AIFF download from Bandcamp.
Your position about press delays is valid and it's unfortunate when a small act gets bumped so the majors can repackage the same old bullshit, but this time in limited, spatter vinyl.
To be clear I am no fan of RSD but it seems to work…
I popped into the Silver Spring spots around 1pm on Sunday to browse, didn't buy anything…

Went to Joe's and somehow they only received two records, which based on their track record isn't completely surprising.

I finally hit up the new Crooked Beat location on Sunday in Alexandria which was super nice and picked up Billy Breathes by Phish and then an impulse buy of the Wilco Live album from '96.
Billy breathes….nice

What percentage of your palatial estate would you estimate is taken up by records?
