I was expecting this…..

Hey, the A's pitching was very impressive. The Halo's needed a day off (they hadn't had one since opening day) adn it showed, especially last night.

I expect both teams to make the playoffs, but I think that one could expect the series to be 10-9 for one team or the other this year. They're both that good.

Congrat's though.

the lack of a left-hander in the bullpen will eventually catch up to them.

The Angels need to get much more out of their pitching this year, it would seem. Washburn, Escobar, and Ortiz have all been pretty bad. F-Rod has been great thus far, though. Think that either Oritz or Kelvim will be able to cash in on all that potential this year?

I don't think that the Halo's will go the whole without a lefty in the pen, although, Brendan Donnelley was an extrememly successful pitcher against lefties - probably (I don't have time to look it up) the best righty against lefty in the bigs. Even when he returns, he won't be back to form until the all-star break. But look out in Sept when he doesn't have the wear and tear of a full season. For the record, I don't think Yoshitaka Mizuo is the answer either.

Sele or Ortiz will likely be dealt for a solid lefty reliever. The is also a lot of offensive talent in the Angels farm system, and I think everybody but Casey Kothchman will be considered.

Ortiz is a notoriously slow starter, but nonetheless, he has never reached his potential. Giving up an occasional solo long ball was fine, but he's pitching with no confidence right now and having Sele on his heals isn't helping.

Escobar, despite what his numbers say, has pitched fairly well. He got a no decision in the first game he pitched despite giving up only one run, and spread 4 out in his second appearance. Last night he struck out seven which displayed that his movement is coming back and only had one ball out of the infield through 4. He made a mistake to Bobby Crosby in the 6th and that did him in, otherwise, I'd say he's doing just fine considering it's April. I'm hoping his fantasy owners feel the same way as you do because I'd love to get him for nothing.

Now, if you can tell me what the hell is wrong with Jose Contreras, I would be elated. He couldn't keep a 7-1 lead in the third inning yesterday, and I couldn't believe it. The guy is killing me!
Mike Hampton is killing me.
the O's are in first
dude, what are you doing picking jose contreras? never pick a cuban pitcher after 2 years in the majors.

And will be at or below .500 by June 1.

Contreras just doesn't have any confidence, I think. He looked like he had good stuff yesterday (fastball hitting 95-97), but couldn't make pitches when he needed to. Hopefully Jon Lieber will be able to come back and return to form so Contreras isn't needed. Too bad he is sinking fantasy teams left and right now…

His splitter was sick in the first, nonexistent the rest of the game.

I think I'm ready to give up on him too, especially after he had good stuff and a 6 run lead and still had no confidence. I really thought this was his year to be a big time MLB pitcher, be he's looked awful.

As for Hampton, he was just put on waivers so I'm thinking I'd rather take a chance on him than on Contreras. Or should I be the first to bite the bullet and say Kris Benson will finally live up to his potential?

Agreed on Contreras. I'd pick up Benson, because I think he's got more upside than Hampton, what with more strikeouts and all. Besides, Kip Wells has proven that even on a crappy Pirates team, you can still pitch well and win games.
I saw on the telly, and just today on the web, that the Redsocks gave the Wankees a good sound beating over the weekend in their little series.

I'm sure had it been a playoff series though, the results would've been just the opposite.
Jose ContrarASS is last years Jeff Weaver. Hampton pitched really well yesterday, his bullpen blew it for him. My pitching staff is so mediocre that i have Elmer Dessens in this week……He's gonna get shelled. But with 16 teams its not like i can have the perfect team. I'm now 12-2. :D

Dude, you have no idea. I'm in a 12 team roto league and I'm in worse pitching shape than you. I lead nearly every offensive category, and am near the bottom of every pitching stat but saves.

My ace thus far has been Kip Wells. I originally started:

Kip Wells
Russ Ortiz (abysmal)
Carlos Zambrano (tremendous upside)
Jose Contreras (abysmal)
John Lackey (abysmal)

Then added:

Jose Lima (holding my breath)
Sean Estes (a little late - had to drop)
Claudio Vargas (way late - dropped)
Nate Robertson (today's gamble)

But my pen has been solid:

Percival
Rhodes
Leskanic/MacDougal (DL)
Shields (rocked, but has two wins - most on my staff)/Donnelley (DL)

Now I am prepared to try Kris Benson or Mike Hampton. I'm just treading water here to keep from drowning.
Dammit. Peter Gammons beat me to publishing this theory too:

Several agents thought Garret Anderson's four-year, $48 million deal was light, but Anderson has never been a money person and wanted to stay with a very successful team where he is the unspoken heart and soul. "That should impact Troy Glaus if he wants to stay there," says one agent. "It also impacts Magglio Ordonez (whom Williams is trying to lock up) and Nomar Garciaparra."

Yes, Troy Glaus will follow. Orange County is the best place in America, hands down. And Arte Moreno replaces GGW as my new favorite Republican.
Wow dude, that is a horrible pitching staff. I have Clemens, Colon, Hampton and Redding…..Dessens is on my bench. Well, this week Dessens is starting. I have to depend on Clemens and Colon getting wins every week. I dont play roto, I play by points per week against other divisions. My hitting is definetely keeping me alive. (Helton, Burrell, Sanders and Konerko). I'm waiting for Larry Walker to stop finding dead bodies in his yard and start getting off the disabled list and hitting me some Coors Field Bombs!!!!!!!!

I've been trying to shore it up through the waiver wire, but I'm going to be dealing soon.

Offensively, forgetaboutit. Vlad, Rolen, M. Young, Ordonez, Javy Lopez, S. Green, Burnitz, Guillen, Mankeivicz - but you can see that my offensive minded draft really hurt my pitching staff.

I'm thinking of changing to a head to head league next season, but I've been doing roto for so long that I'm not sure I have the same mindset for head to head.

Thanks for bringing up Walker - you're on the DL with a strained groin - what are you doing on an ATV!??!???!??

Make sure to read the rules for whatever head to head league you join - I was in an ESPN h2h league last year and it was basically a waiver wire contest for spot starters. To me, that took some skill, and a lot of fun, out of the game.
he he. . tonight's law and order is based off of steve bartman. be sure to watch!
