Actually, Neil Diamond has written some good songs. Perhaps that's why the 9:30 club is hosting a Neil Diamond tribute band Friday night, and not a Phil Collins tribute band.

quote:
Originally posted by Jaguär:
Trust me Markie, you DON'T want to know anything about Up With People!
They make Phil Collins, Neil Diamond, and all that other kind of schlock sound good. In the case of the Neil Diamond tribute, the point is that 20somethings can go see the tribute band for $15, smoke and drink in a club, and not have to pay $75 to see the real guy in a huge smoke free amphitheater filled with horny 50something housewives.

quote:
Originally posted by markie:
I dont see the point of a tribute band, especially so when the tributed artist is still alive and performing his hits.
But then again, I always go to a show to see a rock star, not someone pretending to be a rock star…..

That WE did not include ME.
I'll take a Neil Diamond tribute band to a Zepplin or Floyd tribute band anyday.

quote:
Originally posted by Celeste:
It's about the MUSIC, man…not about the rock STAR…we used to go see Zeppelin and Floyd cover bands all the time when I was a dopey 20-something…if you like the songs and drink enough, it's a good time…of course, key members of those bands being tributed are dead (aren't they?)…I think I may have even seen a Who cover band…

At least at Zeppelin tribute shows, you don't get drunk-ass yuppies and overgrown frat boys dancing around and singing along to the music!

Anyone seen the Bootleg Beatles???
they seem like a proper cover band.
You would in a college town.
QUOTE]Originally posted by Celeste:
At least at Zeppelin tribute shows, you don't get drunk-ass yuppies and overgrown frat boys dancing around and singing along to the music!

I can't imagine what you're talking about. Zeppelin is one of the main staples of classic rock, which in turn is the basic musical fodder for a whole generation of yuppies and overgrown fratboys. Who else would go to a Zeppelin tribute?

quote:
Originally posted by Celeste:
At least at Zeppelin tribute shows, you don't get drunk-ass yuppies and overgrown frat boys dancing around and singing along to the music!

anybody ever see Dread Zepplin - the Reggae Zepplin tribute band with a Elvis clone on vocals. Now they were a frat boy band!
