Blue collar=classic rock where I grew up. I don't even think I heard the word "yuppie" growing up in Upstate NY. Then again, I was probably done growing up before the word ever existed, I'm so old.

I would say the singer is the one that gives it authenticity, because the other musicians can be easily immitated.
Actually, Rhett Miller grew up in Dallas, Texas. His dad is a lawyer, and he went to a private school, so I doubt he had much in common with the blue collar set.
You bring up an interesting point in your second paragraph. What about bands where someone other than the lead singer is the principal songwriter. Take Los Lobos for example. The percussionist is the guy who writes most of the lyrics, not the two guys who sing the songs. If the two singers went dolo and did Los Lobos songs, would they have more credibility than Los Lobos with different singers?

quote:
Originally posted by G.Love:
Hey what a coincident, Rhett grew up in Upstate NY, maybe you know him!
What if the a couple of band members go off and continue to do songs from the original band but no new stuff, are they a cover band? for example Rossington-Collins band doing all the Lynryd Skynyrd tunes, or Roger Waters after Floyd, or David Weave Roth? Jerry Cantrell was the main songwriter for Alice in Chains yet is having trouble finding as much success without Layne.

Poorlulu, how drunk were you/would you have paid to see them?
well i dont know ……..i never thought about it………….my husband said he'd pay 20 bones to see em at black cat though………
maybe i'd have paid $10………….

What about Kween – The Japanese Queen Tribute Band?

quote:
Originally posted by poorlulu:
20 bones to see em at black cat though………
.

20 bones, well there are 206 bones in the human body. So thats nearly 1/10th of a corpse…..
Which is amusing as most tribute bands seem to be flogging a dead horse, and I have no idea how many bones a horse contains.
kween are kwool…………..

Fico, just now jumping on the Ryan Adams bandwagon. Fico, where were you in 1997?
