Why? Its near my house (and a metro stop), the prices are really good (new CDs generally $12/13 max and often cheaper) and Nayan the owner is a nice guy.

Yes, its small, and yes, their selection could be better but they will order stuff for you…..

I am also trying to locate the best CD stores in town. My wife and I had a list of 25 things and we were only able to find 6 or 7 of them after hitting a few places on Saturday. (My tastes are aging hipster - Big Takeover magazine-ish). So far, Melody seems to have the most comprehensive indie selection but the prices were just ok. Crooked Best was pretty small but I noticed they had some good imports and a liked the atmosphere and help. Nothing else I have visted was very good. I still haven't been to Tower.

So are there any other stores, especially good used discs stores in town, or should I stick with ordering from Parasol and Insound?

Along the likes of what Hoya said, some of the hipster "approved" bands that gain and then lose popularity, are in part because why should we pay money to be surrounded by a bunch of rude people who came late to the party. It great for the band to gain a wider fanbase, it sucks to a fan who is used to seeing them in more intimate settings.

i'm a spectator sports fan. i dismiss curling.

i know i don't like curling because i saw it on TV and found it incredibly boring … i don't need to go to curling contests to fucking justify it.

i'm a music fan. i dismiss jam bands.

i know i don't like jam bands because i've listened to them and lived around plenty of their fans in college … i don't need to go to around to jam band shows to justify my distate.

I don't go to shows of bands i don't like, just like every sane person in the world. But I don't make judgements on any kind of music because its hippy music, or black music, or country music, or whatever. Maybe you just don't enjoy the music, or what they do live just doesn't appeal to you. Again, that's fine. But saying "it's fucking hippy music" or whatever the instant reply around here is when anyone asks what the setlist at a Ben Harper show is or posts a roll call for a jam band is at best immature and at worst idiotic. Either way, its an inadequate critique of music. I'm not saying you're necessarily the culprit, but all too often I see it here. And the thread about poser jam bands is so illustrative of my point. The same joke can be made about any genre of music, including whatever music you listen to.

And TheLastDispatch, the best place soundwise in the 9:30 club (other than VIP) is definitely front of house. The best place to watch a show though, is different, especially if people are dancin' and flailing. I prefer about 1/3 of the way back from stage right on the main floor. There's easy access to the bar/foodfood, as well as the best in/out access to your spot in the club (although if its sold out it's not easy to get in/out anywhere).
