Well I can't speak for Celeste, but if i had to guess, the guy with the rhett cut (who we saw) was not the guy she was referring to.

quote:
Originally posted by Fico:
I think now I know which chap Celeste is referring to…a skinny white kid with a haicut similar to Rhett??
It was funny how couples who were in line would take a picture with him and then the girl would push her man aside and ask for a picture of Rhett and her alone… for an alt-country bloke he packs the birds in…

So how was the Neil Finn/Rhett Miller show?? some of you were going yet no one has posted any comments on it…
It was fantastic - even Rhett Miller was surprsingly good (hate the solo album but do like Old 97's). He even said he may be back later this year with the Old 97's. Neil Finn was great, he is a great with the audience. And a great cover of The Smiths' There's A Light That Never Goes Out dedicated to Johnny Marr. Markie did a nice little dork leap when it started.

Rhett did only three Old 97's songs, whereas most of the songs he did at Borders were Old 97's songs. Thus, I was less than thrilled about song selection. However, I think he was a lot better solo acoustic than with the Instigators backing him. Of course, not nearly as good as seeing an Old 97's show, but I was satisfied. He also left of the funny little between song stories, including the one about "Our Love" being Nick Hornby's favorite song of 2002, the one he plays while on his treadmill, and the fact that Nick Hornby started a correspondence with him and told him he wanted to be his friend. Fico, I think you saw the better of the two shows by seeing him at Borders.
We left after about 45 mins of Neil Finn on account of me having an early morning meeting, our mutual unfamiliarity with his material, and my dates' aching tummy. While I respect his artistry, and saw that he has a good stage presence, I don't think I'll ever be much of a Neil Finn fan.
[This message has been edited by Rhett Miller (edited 01-29-2003).]

Rhett, I take it you were far more satisfied with his Black Cat show??
Wish I would had seen you earlier at Borders, I had a disc for you. Maybe next time.
Actually, I probably preferred last nights show to the Black Cat, because he was better solo than with the listless backup hacks he had playing with him. However, he did play for twice as long at the Black Cat, and threw in a healthy dose of Old 97's songs, which he didn't have time to do last night. I liked him at Borders because he did a healthy dose of Old 97's material (including one song I've never seen them do live, though he forgot the words), and because he was more chatty between songs than I've ever seen him. All tree performances had their merits I guess.

I think Satellite Rides, the best selling Old 97's album to date, sold around 60,000 copies. No idea how much the solo album has sold. It seems to have more record company backing, and they offer it at that bargain price, but don't know if that's translated into sales. It hasn't at any time cracked the Billboard top 100.

I figured they were in the 350k neighborhood… I figured Satellite Rides had sold more copies than Wilco's Summerteeth… which I thought would be comparable since both bands are under the same umbrella pretty much…

Summerteeth sold 154K
http://www.jimdero.com/News2002/WilcoApril23.htm
Will the disc match or outsell "Being There" (which sold 208,000 copies in the United States) and "Summerteeth" (154,000 sold)? Or will distributing the music for free on the Internet prove to have hurt Wilco at the cash register?
