yup rhett is a sweaty, spitty bloke……….good stage performer though……..and he looked much purtier last night than he did at the black cat……..or was i just further away……….?<P>i can't believe you left rhett………neil finn was fantastic………you missed out on a great show.
I may be the #1 Neil Finn fan in Washington, DC. It got off to a bit of a slow start–bad audio mix–but then it picked up fantastically. Neil's bass player, Sebastian Steinberg (of Soul Coughing) was phonomenal, but Lisa Germano's presence on backing vocals and violin was missed (due to a family illness). That said, Neil performed rockin' versions of Locked Out (Crowded House), Driving Me Mad, She Will Have Her Way, Something So Strong (also CH), a cover of the Smith's "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" as well as a number of cuts off his latest album, One All. As usual, he interacted with the audience wonderfully, including calling 2 guys to join him on Weather With You, and playing the first track of a CD of some audience member's band, while jokingly threatening "to sue his ass" because track 1 had the same name as Crowded House's "Mean To Me."<P>For a more mellow experience, I highly recommend "One All." For a live concert experience, I recommend Neil's "Seven Worlds Collide" CD or DVD (featuring Eddie Vedder, Johnny Marr, Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead, Tim Finn, Sebastian Steinberg and Lisa Germano.
Neil Finn is on Conan tonight
neil finn was fantastic. if anyone needs pictures, remind me in about a week and i can burn you a cd with all of the photos and mail it off. (assuming the photos turned out well, unlike in july when they were crap)<P>as for rhett miller, well, the 3rd to last song was great, but i didn't feel that his music translated well with just him and a guitar. some songs did, but not the whole set. if he had a band, i think i really would have enjoyed him.
I read that Neil Finn was late getting to the show in Philly, requiring Rhett to do an extra long set. He included a Bowie cover amongst those songs. Probably better than the Fiona Apple song he played at Borders.
I heard from a friend in Dallas who Knows Rhett since back in HS that the rumor mill is flying fast and furious out there. Apparently (and this wasn't 100% verified), the 97's label has dropped them for low sales, but kept Rhett on for solo stuff. So he was trying to leverage both to get the 97's back on the label. Then the solo sales didn't do what the label expected, and they pulled support for the tour (ergo, why there are no "Instigators" anymore).<P>Haven't heard how all this stuff has shaken out yet. That report was from ~2 weeks ago.

the one that wasn't so great
