So venerable and I had this conversation at Anaheim stadium last week after the hottest Angel fan I have EVER seen went walking past our seats down to the second row and had a seat. Even Garrett Anderson and the bullpen all took notice. She was incredible - and of course she had pigtails. Everytime she walked up or down the aisle, the game took a break as far as we were concerned. Anyhow, after the eighth or ninth hottie walked by with pigtails, venerable asked if he had missed something about pigtails. I informed him that he had because it had been going on for a about 2 years now but has gotten really popular in the last 6 months.
I'm not sure of the origin, but I have my guesses. Like most other things, I attribute it to the porn industry. You see, the porn industry is making some good money in the barely legal market - the around the age of 18 type thing. And as the girls get older, in order to make them look younger, they put them all in pigtails. This is popular a popular tactic at strip joints too.
So guys, after watching the barely legal porn, convince their girlfriends to throw their hair in pigtails for a kinky night and the girls think how cute they look. So they start wearing them out. That has spread like wildfire and now all kinds of girls are going the pigtial route.
It's that sense of innocence that men like and that and that sense of "I'm really not looking that old" that girls strive for. It's a win-win for us.
