Death Cab Roll Call

Leslie Feist @ Olssons

For anyone who has been paying attention, Canadian bands have been invaluable in breathing life into indie rock (prime examples being Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene and The New Pornograpers). Leslie Feist has been involved with that sprawling musical collective from the North, Broken Social Scene, and will be the opening act for their sold out performance at the 9:30 Club this Wednesday. For those of you who didn't get tickets for this show, you're in luck.

Feist will be doing an in-store performance at our Dupont Circle store on Wednesday, October 26 at 5 p.m. the day of the show. Feist's album "Let it Die" has been a sleeper hit of sorts with its mix of covers and original compositions combining elements of jazz, french pop and disco in an improbable but winning way.
I was one of about five people who saw her at Tower awhile back (when she was opening for BSP), and her solo acoustic in-store persona is completely underwhelming. I'm not sure why she gets such attention. I guess because she's part of the Ugly Team. Keren Ann, A Girl Called Eddy, and others do the same music with better results.

good answer :D
it's true though. heh. and because i saw that show, i make sure never to see them again.
at about 8:55 AM the past tuesday and wednesday, the video for soul meets body was shown on vh-1. that's way more death cab than i needed to hear.
i will be there sunday. i missed them last year due to stupidity/laziness- i didn't buy tickets on time. but i was on it this time.

am i making this up, or did they also come on oct. 23 last year?

That is correct.
Sunday.
Thanks to Bags I was able to make tonight's show. I thought Death Cab was great. I was at last year's show, and this show was much better. Last year, I thought the songs basically sounded just like their album versions. It was a perfectly serviceable concert, but nothing spectacular. What a difference a year makes! Death Cab put on a much more mature, varied, and impressive concert performance tonight.

This was probably the best sounding 9:30 Club show of the year. My compliments to the sound engineers.

I really enjoyed Stars. I was very impressed by the variety of songs they performed. I would have bought one or more of their CDs, but they were all $15. I don't understand why bands charge so much for their CDs at 9:30 Club concerts. CDs are at most $10 at Black Cat shows. $15 is simply too much. I can get these CDs for far less at any number of stores, online or otherwise. Anyway, I bought the Death Cab poster instead, one of the best concert posters I've seen in a while.
i have to say, $14 for a double shot of Jack was a fine bargain, considering it kept me from strangling the girl who stood next to me, dancing by twirling her hands in the air, owning her boyfriend, and talking about Ani Difranco (pronounced "annie") and how "she's so cool because she's, like, so left that she's left of left."

anyway.

genius idea, tbmtt, to go stand in the back, get piss drunk, and laugh at everyone. we heard the music just fine, didn't need earplugs, didn't step on a 12-year-old by mistake, and had dancing space. i loved hearing the old stuff - photobooth, etc.- and romanticizing the good old days. Do folks remember the modest mouse/death cab show at the old black cat? We were discussing who opened for whom, and whether it was sold out. I say DCFC opened, and it wasn't sold out. Either way, DCFC is now SOLD OUT. in so many ways. Oh, and they're getting a little chunky. Must be that rich man's diet they're getting on.

and the grand total bar tab was over $70.
what time did you guys get out of there last night? I'm coming from Williamsburg, and i've gotta decide whether to crash at a local friend's house for the night, or head back straight from the club.
