Worst Band Ever?

Oh, I totally forgot Pink Floyd. They are so easy to forget. They are worse than Led Zeppelin and the Beatles COMBINED.

Brian

P.S. Another criteria?: Being pwned by Stephen Malkmus in a Pavement song (Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots.)
i also really hate pink floyd a lot a lot.

absolutely. music that has had the opportunity to develop a following must automatically suck. besides, more than 2,500 peeple have copies of their music - how un-indie is that?
What formula did you use to arrive at that conclusion?

No it isn't. That "What Is Love" song is.

oh-so-shocking facile statement - (any actual knowledge + taste) * desire to be noticed =

gotta agree with those who are dumbfounded by the trashing of older bands like led zeppelin, rush, the who, the beatles, the doors, pink floyd, etc. what about hendrix? does he suck too? i'm sure CCR and the stones blow goat balls, right? black sabbath? complete trash.

admittedly, i grew up with all of these bands from the age of 8 to high school. and guess what? i now have over 4000 lps/cds/tapes, and i still think that all of these bands have their worth. you gotta dig a little deeper than that annoying single that's played on classic rock radio ad infinitum.

and there's nothing more cliched than trashing zeppelin for ripping off old blues artists and trashing rush for being pretentious crap for sci-fi nerds and 13-year-old boys. while zeppelin was obviously influenced by old blues, both delta and electric, they were also influenced by tons of folk, especially fairport convention, the incredible string band, and pentangle. you can't listen to "the battle of evermore" or "going to california" and tell me that they're ripping off the blues. and songs like "no quarter" and "achilles last stand" just transcend any sort of cliched hard rock.

yeah, i know, this might be too much for some people to think about. i won't even start to get into how brilliant pink floyd was from 1967-1977.
i don't understand why people are dumbfounded by personal opinions.

you know, this may be the 'worst band ever' thread, but it's super subjective for the most part (as stated earlier).

Maybe it's the definition you're struggling with:

WORST:

The farthest from the best. The most horrible. The pits. To have nothing good.

BAND:

A group of people who come together to play music.

EVER:

At all times; all the time and on every occasion.

Now, be honest with yourself and tell me that the majority of the bands listed fit that description. This is not a thread about the band least deserving of it's accolades, this thread is about the WORST BAND EVER. Hence, the dumbfoundedness. Personal opinions are one thing, but this is done primarily for shock value. You yourself said that you hate U2 but under no circumstances could they be the worst band ever. The Dead, the Doors, Zep, etc are in the same boat - you may not like them, but they can't be anywhere near the worst band ever.
well said, vansmack. i don't like U2 at all after the unforgettable fire, but i wouldn't call them the worst band ever, not by a long shot.

however, kottonmouth kings are in consideration. the two 9:30 shows i worked when they played were just atrocious.

personal opinion is fine if you have some substance to back it up. and i find many of the opinions in this thread lacking substance.
more criteria

How well does a band stand the test of time.
The impact of idiotic verbal diarrhea aka The Nuge Clause
i think brian walalace (if that IS your real name) was actually right in between the times he was wrong. he mentioned live.

live is the worst band of all time.

i am confident in this.

pa-aaaa-aaaa-in lies on the riverside, yeah
and paaaa-aaaa-ain will never say good-bye, oh no
What we need to is start a pro/con whiteboard for a few bands. For instance KISS IMHO could be ranked among the worst. Their cons being the rather amateurish songwriting. Their pro of course being the ability to come with a gimmick to overcome the fact they were a below average bar band.

I can also say Foghat ranks up there as well…
I can't believe no one's mentioned Third Eye Blind, they fit pretty much all of these
Third Eye Blind isn't that bad. They're a group that writes somewhat cheesy power-pop songs. They are what they are.
In my opinion, they have become that bad. The feeback from the last show was they sounded like a Third Eye Blind cover band. It's cool if you dig 'em, (heck, I listened to them for two weeks when they first arrived), and it's fine that they write pop songs - that's not the point. They meet a large quota of the requisites on the aforementioned list, plus, it's 2007, not 1997.
Take them, Sugar Ray and the Gin Blossoms, but leave Toad The Wet Sprocket, who never bothered nobody in the 90s. :D

In a past discussion, a few chimed in that "Throwing Copper" was an outstanding release for it's time.

Definitely. It's not the "Band I Can't Stand" thread.

I've always said The Vines are the worst band I've seen live. I don't know enough about them to put them in the "worst band" category. However, after looking at Kosmo's list they did meet some of the criteria to belong here. (cancelled tour, lack of support from label, WTF is he screaming on stage?, majority hated their live performance etc.)

Well, I blame the radio stations for that one. Speaking of, I'm sure someone on this board had that one Tonic song on a mix tape at some point. ;) Weren't they a part of Lolla one year? A little cred for those prior to…1998? :p
