Worst Band Ever?

Thoughts?

I say Grateful Dead or Gwar, even though there are things I like about both.

I dunno, Pickup. Gwar is a goofy band and they know it. I don't think the band or their fans would even care about this title, as they don't take themselves that seriously. I do think the Dead are dreadful though.

Oh and my vote would probably go to Creed. Or if I needed someone who made a bigger impact, the Doors.
no way are the doors or the dead even close to worst band status. while the dead pretty much sucked after the mid-'70s, some of their songs – and jams – from 1966-1972 are great. and despite jim morrison's pretentiousness and one pretty lousy record (the soft parade), the doors wrote some damn good psych and pop songs.

creed is definitely a contender. i would also throw in limp bizkit, insane clown posse, and nickelback.
blues hammer
good charlotte & simple plan
id say the top five worst bands of all time are; led zepplin, rush, linkin park, creed and bon jovi.

they are all a triumph of mediocrity and proof the masses will accept the most bland mass produced tripe as long as its popular. of course rush "trys" to be different, but its calculated and panders to wannabee musicians who are impressed by simple things like off beat rythyms and the number of notes played in a minute. its musical masterbation.
Where do I begin? Here's five:

White Stripes
Mountain Goats
Smashing Pumpkins
Bright Eyes
Snow Patrol

The fact that you even put Rush or Zeppelin in your top 5 worst bands of all-time makes me SERIOUSLY question your knowledge of music and your overall grip on reality/sanity level. I'm not even a fan of Rush honestly, but Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummers ever. As far as Zeppelin, it's one thing to say you don't like them/not your cup of tea. Fine. But for you to dismiss their catalog like that . . . .

If you said that in a room full of serious music fans/experts, they'd laugh you the fuck outta the room.

With that being said, Creed is MOST DEF a/the front-runner. Fall Out Boy gets honorable mention as well. I'll run with Bizou311's vote & double up on Simple Plan. They unequivocally suck goat ass.

P.S. There's WAAAAY worse bands than Bon Jovi out there.
I would question YOUR knowledge of music if you're quoting that cliched "Neil Peart is one of the greatest drummers of all time" lines. But that's just my opinion. What exactly makes him a great drummer? Did he win a drum solo contest at the arena rock championships? :p
"Ever" is a very big gap of time…….that is many, many years of pure SHIT to crawl thru to find the "worst"….that being said I gotta mention "Jackyl"….that's Jackyl with a Y !…….
I totally agree with Snailhook..

The Doors were the Creed and Nickleback of their time. Possibly the most overblown, cheesy-ass "spiritual"-based crap the pop-rock world has ever produced, all put out by a fat-ass, drug-guzzling retard who's lyrics remind of of the poetry that 15-year old goth kids scribble on their high school notebooks.
i do'nt know if i'd put the doors as one of the top 5 worst bands ever, but they are definitely incredibly overrated.
The Doors, Led, and Rush should never have been mentioned in this list. (Especially Led and Rush).

I love Snow Patrol and Bright Eyes, but there is way more of a possibility that they would show up on my worst of list before Led or Rush.
neil peart has all the talent of a casio drum machine. he might be a technically great musician, but he is souless. having a drum part that is difficult and complicated to play, does in no way make it sound good or make it an indespensible part of a song. lyrically, rush is like a 10th grade english class for retards that has internet access. they simply pander with cliches, tribble and whatever they think 13 year old boys will like.

any music "expert" who thinks led zepplin is great (or even good) has no understanding of the american blues music that zepplin ripped off.
zepplin is just playing other peoples music and watering it down for mass consumption. and they even stole whole songs outright. the popularity of led zepplin is equal to the general populations ignorance of american black blues music.
What Led Zepplin did would be like me going to china and playing nirvana songs on a banjo and becoming a famous music star there. One day, the chinese would hear a real nirvana song, and my career is over. good thing for led zepplin, muddy waters is dead.

Matchbox 20
Asia
Bush
Sugar Ray
Hootie and the Blowfish
Toad the Wet Sprocket
I'm kind of bothered that Led Zeppelin is being mentioned in this string but I understand everyone has their different tastes and likings. I'm just thinking though that all these bands that became great like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, they all took elements from other types of music to make them the band they are. I might be able to better understand why certain people don't like Zeppelin if I actually learned guitar and understood what it is. But Zeppelin laid the groundwork for all future rock bands to come, that's why I'll never be able to say Zeppelin is a crappy band. Heck every band that's created takes an influence from some other music style. It's what popular music is, something for everyone.

So while I'm at it, here's a few to add that shouldn't have existed in the first place:
Hinder
Chevelle
Any hair metal band
Puddle of Mudd

By the way, this new Smashing Pumpkins album is just not doing it for me

I'll actually add a vote for Bright Eyes, makes great lyrics but could do something about the music
The Beatles
The Who
Led Zeppelin
The Grateful Dead

and just to prove I don't only loathe nostalgic, over-rated, baby-boomer classic rock I can come up with some modern bands:

Live
The Smashing Pumpkins
Red Hot Chili Peppers (that point made about China/Nirvana/Led Zeppelin can also be applied to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Just substitute George Clinton/P-funk for Muddy Waters.)

oh, and Rush. I don't even think what they produce is music. It's so awful on so many levels. Just three good musicians (I guess?) who have no concept of originality or feeling. Whenever I hear Rush I think about all those monkeys typing Shakespeare. If you put a thousand monkeys in a room with a guitar, bass and drums in about fifteen minutes they would come up with "Power Windows."

Brian

P.S. And I'm not trying to be controversial or "punk" by saying The Beatles are one of the worst bands ever. I really believe that. I have definite opinions about why they are so awful.
