i haven't been following the olympics or my fantasy hockey team at all, but i saw on espn.com's headlines that both hasek and elias got hurt and are out of the olympics and they are both on my team. bastards.

and the point still stands…sure you'll end up with a boatload of medals (most of them in those newfangled sports that were designed to boost US medal totals) but there have been a bunch of flops/dissapointments…Ohno, Miller, the snowboardcross woman etc etc
1. Curling - invented in Scotland and far more popular in Europe and Canada than in the U.S.
2. Skeleton - Developed in St. Moritz. Big in the Alpine countries.
3. Snowboarding - Maybe you can say this is a U.S.-favored sport, but considering it's become the most popular winter sport (after skiing), I don't see how it could have ever been excluded from the Olympics.
and curling was in the Olympics as a demonstration event many times since 1924.
Curling - 1998
Snowboarding - 1998
Short Track Speed Skating - 1992

Historically, Canada was the short track powerhouse. Recently, Korea has taken over. The U.S. has consistently been way down on the list.

i think you need to recognize the difference of someone complaining and someone poking fun. [/QB]

secondly, i said, if ANY of those sports were to be considered to be more of a US sport , its Short track, because i was counting out snowboarding, their curling team sucks a big one, both men and women, and i dont believe they have a decent skeleton racer (you guys arent THAT crazy!)
therefore, with Ohno and i think some woman, America has a much better short track team, than curling or skeleton. and from what I've seen, they are getting better and better (the short track team)
if you are still trying to make this a matter or right or wrong, go ahead, but you are simply arguing with yourself, and if you think the US curling team is good, i suggest you watch those losers play a game…..

But, I think we can all agree that curling, skeleton, and short track were not US-dominated sports when they became Olympic sports but that the US has now become relatively successful in them because we are the greatest nation in the world.

I'm thinking he prefers Michigan, given that he's from there, and did a Michigan record first.

holy crap! US vs Russia is turining out to be an entertaining game. I'm watching right now, its tied 4-4. USA! USA! USA!

wow, the 3rd period of the Finland/US quarterfinal match was incredible to watch … USA really gave it their all, came a goal short … shitty draw to run up against finland in the quarters, i bet US wishes they were in Sweden's place
Seeing that this is an Olympic thread, the state that produced the most winter olympians should be deemed the best. The winner is Minnesota with 34.
I don't know what's worse, USA winning just one game, or "The Almighty We Can't Be Beat Because Hockey Is Our Sport" Canada getting shut out three times.
