I also really like the guy who drums in The Bloodthirsty Lovers. Complex rhythmsthat you really don't expect. Someone after a gig asked him if he studied jazz. He didn't.
Kevin March, currently with GbV. Always on everytime I've seen them. (Going to Cleveland Sunday for GbV.)
The guy who drummed for Richard Thompson during his tour this year. Visually interesting to watch as well.
Magee, who played drums in a band I was in during the 80's. :) Magee had "parts" for christ sakes.
I also like the guy who plays in Rainer Maria. He's a hell of a cymbol crasher, & he's relentless. It really works with that band.

Clyde Stubblefield, 'The Funky Drummer', with James Brown.
Melvin Parker and Jabo Starks were equally as good with JB.
The drummer for Pylon, Curtis Crowe, had an excellent sound. He and Grant Hart would be my faves.
