What's with the youth of today and the Beatles obsession? It's music that my dad likes ferchrissakes!

The Beatles suck! They ruined rock and roll.
Oh right…because music has sucked so much since 1969. :)

This statement – even if in jest, irony or assholiness – cannot be allowed to stand. The Beatles invented modern rock and roll. Noone compares. Not Elvis, not Dylan, not Maiden. In terms of quality, global impact, development and longevity, nothing and noone can compare.

My three favorite three-song sequences:
Meat Puppets II:
8 New Gods
9 Oh, Me
10 Lake of Fire

Jesus & Mary Chain Psychocandy
11 My Little Underground
12 You Trip Me Up
13 Something's Wrong

Minutemen Buzz or Howl Under Influence of Heat
6 I Felt Like a Gringo
7 The Product
8 Little Man with a Gun in His Hand

If I had to come up with a fourth, I'd agree with Betty's concluding trio from Abbey Road.

Correction. The Beatles are rock n roll. Without them, there would be nothing.
Radiohead, The Bends:
"(Nice Dream)"
"Just"
"My Iron Lung"

Neutral Milk Hotel, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea:
"The King of Carrot Flowers, Pt. One"
"The King of Carrot Flowers, Pts. Two & Three"
"In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
One of my faves is from the Buzzcocks' "A Different Kind of Tension" LP:

4) You Know You Can't Help It
5) Mad Mad Judy
6) Raison d'Etre

one I've always liked was the closing run of REM's Automatic for The People…..Man on The Moon, Nightswimming, and Find The River
This is a GREAT choice.

Tho I'd cut it down to just the last two.

Nightswimming is probably the best REM song that gets no love.

*************

I like these:

Tracks 2,3 & 4 on Sticky Fingers (RS):
Sway
Wild Horses
Can't You Hear Me Knocking

and

Tracks 2,3 & 4 on Gentlemen (Afghan Whigs):
Gentlemen
Be Sweet
Debonair
WHIGS 1965:

1. somethin hot
2. crazy
3. uptown again

three smashing starters for an album
Had to know it was coming from me…

Clutch - "Blast Tyrant"

Track 1 - Mercury
Track 2 - Profits of Doom
Track 3 - The Mob Goes Wild

What a way to start an album off. Three solid heavy rock numbers that leave you breathless and tired from singing along.
