2012 albums

You left out Frankie Rose, Screaming Females, Eternal Summers, Heavy Cream and Deep Time. But I agree.

I will look into those as the only one I've heard is the Screaming Females, which I thought was good but not great. We'll also see about the new Cat Power. I listened to it once and liked it but haven't gotten back to it. Fiona Apple's also was good but not enough to keep me listening to it.
Relaxer, check out Purity Ring if you havent already.  Their album "Shrines" is one of my favorite female vocalist driven ones of the year.  Excellent dark/witchy pop.
White Lung's record is another. Stream.

I am loving that album.
I gave Purity Ring an earnest try. First couple of songs, I thought, oh this is pretty good. But then the vocals just got a little too cloying.

Chains of Love's Strange Grey Days is another I'm liking a lot. Very VERY retro girl-group sound with just enough of an edge to keep it modern. Super catchy, way out keyboards, great backing vocals. Would love to see these guys live.

And I usually don't much go for yesteryear's artists but the new Bob Mould album is really strong. Its much more Sugar than Husker but that's too be expected I guess.
Chains of Love sounds up my alley. And yeah the Bob Mould is his best in a long time. I think the rhythm section he used has a little to do with that.
Same one he has been touring with for the last three years.
K8T, good to hear!

And Relaxer, I feel you on that.  I usually just listen to them on shuffle.

I am excited for their upcoming DC show with Evian Christ (he is also worth looking up if you are into dark pop/witch house).
I will check out chains of love!  Thanks!
Field Report comes out with the debut album next week.  Let's get the 930 show booked!
So, can we go ahead and declare The Seer to be the album of the year yet?

Horse Lords
By Horse Lords

"Horse Lords is the quartet of Andrew Bernstein, Max Eilbacher, Owen Gardner and Sam Haberman. The band transmutes experimental tactics (polyrhythm, arcane tunings and modular synthesis) into direct, muscular and surprisingly funky songs. The result is an ambitious sound with the volume, energy and density of great rock music but an expansive wanderlust that draws on a wider range of reference points. Using the just intonation tuning system favored by avant garde composers such as La Monte Young and James Tenney, the group's playing acknowledges the conservatory but just as freely draws upon krautrock, post-punk, Appalachian and African musical traditions. In order to be able to play in this tuning, Gardner hand-modified his guitar, adding and precisely repositioning frets, and the result is a truly distinctive guitar sound, both jarring and joyful. Elaborate but not self-indulgent, wide ranging but tightly executed, Horse Lords are at once trance inducing, ecstatic, and rhythmically compelling. "
