Oh I've been following @_floridaman and @_floridawoman for sometime (at the recommendation of a bordie) and have to turn away sometimes because the belly laughs are so hard

but yes just comedy gold…even better than the onion IMO

Florida man dies in meth-lab explosion after lighting farts on fire
so, about that mad max movie…

(pundits really do need to listen to us)
Run-off voting almost certainly cost The Revenent Best Picture. (FTR, I didn't think it was all that great – Spotlight, Brooklyn, and The Room were all much better films – but I do think it probably had the most first place votes.)
Seemed like they overdid the whole Black thing. Think they mentioned it about 100 times compared to no mentions od Asians or Hispanics, at least when i was watching.
about mad max
6 Oscars is an amazing feat, but they are all the minor Oscars
what is also odd is that the Oscars have these similar awards and typically they don't give them to the same movie

Separate awards for Costume and Hair/Makeup…honestly should have retroactively been given to Road Warrior

Film editing and Production design…not even sure what these awards are, but surprised that this was the best in both of these

Sound editing and sound mixing…jez seems like they were splitting hairs on these separate ones, but honestly again surprised that this was the BEST

On a cool side note Kira Roessler, one half of the duo Dos with Mike Watt and a former member of Black Flag, has won an Oscar for Best Sound Editing for Mad Max: Fury Road.

This is my thought as well. African-Americans make up ~12% of the population. In the past 20 years, they've gotten 10% of all acting nominations and accounted for 15% of the wins. Those numbers are perfectly reasonable.

Meanwhile, Hispanics make up ~16% of the population and have <2% of all nominations in the last 2 decades. How is this an African-American disenfranchisement issue?

Oh my god, she was probably my biggest celebrity crush growing up. I adored her (the tomboy version, not the glam ho version) and I'm so glad to see she has added an Oscar to her Grammy. Keep going girlfriend, EGOT awaits.

Was looking for a cute pic to post of Kira…but somehow this came up and thought I should share

LOL great pic

rumor has it that kira had the 10-1/2.
always loved Robert christgau's reviews of the 80's punk stuff
but he thinks she's got it too

Who's Got the 10-1/2? [SST, 1986]
My War, Slip It In, the Live '84 tape, the instrumental sides, Henry's poetry readings–it was all too much, the excess production of bohemian businessmen ready to shove any old shit up the wazoos of their presold believers. So I hardly heard the 1985 studio LPs Loose Nut and In My Head, which prove their sharpest since Damaged, with Loose Nut especially showing off Greg Ginn's fangs as lyricist and riffmaster. The demented acceleration and guitar squiggles of this live date improve most of the hottest songs from the '85 albums. And while introducing the band members by cock size may protest their belated obsession with sex too much, I can't complain when the answer to the title question is Kira, who plays bass so stalwartly she deserves all the credit she can get. A-
I saw Straight out of Compton over the weekend. While the film was entertaining ("mildly enertaining" to quote my wife), I agree with it not really being Oscar level. With one notable exception…Paul Giamatti…his performance perhaps should have been nominated.

He's uniformly great in anything he's in. Criminally underrated actor.

But does he really play anything other than the douchey white guy? Every time I see him, he's another douchey white guy. Mind you, he plays the role better than most of us do.

If they ever make a movie about Pete Rose, I'd like to see Paul G. play the lead role.

I would hardly say he's underrated
he'd do better if he'd work on his BMI

Only saw the first episode of Billions and he's awesome in that

He's been nominated for one academy award (Cinderella Man) and two Golden Globes (outside of minor "best guest star in a made for TV movie" type things). No Emmys noms in major categories. That he didn't win an Academy Award (OR EVEN GET NOMINATED) for Sideways was criminal.

I say underrated.

but the critics LOVE him, yes the academy and other awards shows haven't showered him with awards

I don't know what his bill rate is, but I'm sure he doesn't come cheaper than Gary Busey

I didn't say the dude was going hungry.
