I mean you ever been to Europe. The infrastructure is in way better shape than here. The trains, airports, highways…etc. it all looks spic and span. As Trump has said our airports look like shit compared to Europe!!
Meanwhile, in Canada...

stop it. if you start pointing out the holes in trump's "logic" we'll be here all day.
Holes?
First of all infrastructure investment is permanent. Take your airports. Your capacity might need to double every ten years! So you are permanently investing in the equivalent of a new airport. Then you have your maintenance. Have you guys taken that bridge to Manhattan by the Bronx??? It’s literally falling apart! You are lucky not to lose a car there! And you pay toll for privilege.
But let’s talk European development post WWII. Ever heard of the Marshall Plan?
Ever travel high speed rail in Europe? How do you think it compares to Amtrak? You say well we drive here…you think European highways suck??
The fact is their infrastructure is in better shape than ours and it’s reasonable to wonder if the fact they spend so relatively little on defense might have something to do with it.

sweets, you have some 'splain' to do
it costs up $200b in subsidy to keep Canada afloat.

trump went to wharton @ Upenn for undergrad, but apparently he skipped the part on deficits. when you're at the top of an empire, a deficit is the goal: it means you're getting more than you giving, and others are financing your consumption. instead he thinks it's some sort of injustice.
some day in the not to distant future, what's left of america will look back with nostalgia at the pre-trump era and wonder how they lost it all. likely to go down as the all-time game-losing own-goal.
Welp in somewhat good news the potus is calling Carney prime minister and not governor
Carney stood up to the bully.
I think there is some jealousy of Trudeau, in that Melania seemed to be fond for him and donny didn't like that
^ it's so stupid that we actually have to consider that as a contributing factor to the current state of international relations in this country.

well done Mr. young
Never say never … over time, we'll see what happens.
I'm just embarrassed to be an American and how he continues with this rhetoric right to the leaders face
Could you imagine someone saying something that outrageous to trump

so gawdamn obnoxious. carney came to the WH to salvage what was left of the old relationship and, mostly, to forge a new one. he wants to figure out how the two countries could work together - and trump just spits in his face.
the only reason he says this shit (without meaning it) is to pander to his base. he needs to be seen as the tough guy, the give-no-respect guy, the will-say-anything-he-feels-like guy… AKA a troll. he put his image before the economic needs of the entire country.
we prisoners to his mental health issues.
Not sure why Carney was in such a hurry to meet Trump.
Once Trump made his comments about how we don’t need anything from Canada earlier today Carney’s best course of action was to head back to Canada.

a country's leader has two top concerns: security and the economy. for Canada, the US has suddenly become the #1 threat to both. Carney, being a normal, no-nonsense, boring* leader, knows that he can't waste time. uncertainty doesn't help anyone, so best to grab the bull by the horns a figure out a path forward. trump is an in-person, shake-your-hand kinda businessman so Carney grabbed the first opening in trump's calendar.
*Carney is a run-of-the-mill technocrat. he's an economist that could be mistaken for a 60's sitcom father. i'm certain his dad jokes are FIRE (although i suspect that he prefaces them with a warning, "alright, i'm going to be funny now - what do you call…")

trump loves attention, so give it to him
Other than the Z, he typically won't do anything insane when the cameras are rolling, so I think a good choice
I'm sure his expectations were low
