what's weird is Regan is so not what the GOP is today, not even sure why that touched a nerve
I've seen hundreds of things by almost every GOP president that are the opposite position of MAGA and never seen it ruffle fethers like this
I just think it's all about selective outrage and dominating the news cycle, and if anything team trump scores 10 out of 10 for dominating the daily news cycle

I don’t know….on policy Reagan might seem different but in reality he was a lot like Trump….Reagan appealed to American jingoists….he appealed to the same sorts of people: let’s remember he appealed to traditional blue collar democrats…And he was always flexing…a lot of similarities to Trump….lets have a war with Grenada seems a lot like blowing up fishing boats… and his attitude about spending was in the same wheelhouse as Trump: pretend you care about spending and the deficit- cut entitlements etc- and blow up spending as much as you can on the things you care about: defense and tax cuts. Also Reagan like Trump was a great actor (as president)…people liked him and he just looked at the camera and sputtered grade A bullshit and people bought it. He drove me nuts!
History has judged Reagan as an upper tier president because he got the US out of its 70s post Watergate funk but that doesn’t contradict any of the above.

Yeah, it's fucking maddening when people act like Trump is some wild deviation from the Republican party. Yeah, he's more openly racist and fascist but that's just the next Pokemon evolution of these sickos. I mean, look at where he announced his campaign! If that's your ideal of some kind of lost decency in the GOP, boy I don't know what to tell you!

Ok, I retract what was said on well crafted insight from you two
I guess my feeling is, Reagan was for amnesty and guest worker programs. he celebrated America’s diversity and framed immigration as a part of our identity (but yes Regan didn't wear his racism on his sleve like Trump…see welfare queens and war on drugs)
Free markets not protectorate nationalism (but alas, was cover to just remove regulations and lower taxes for the wealthy)
very supportive of NATO
My take had more to do with how Trump has no care for any GOP legacy and he doesn't give a squat about what previous leaders (or even existing leaders) say or do. It's my way or the highway, the voters are behind me not the party.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Regan somewhat respected the history and current stance of the GOP and its leadership (not that is anything to praise) I do think that is weird to reject everything your party stood for, but the voters/donors DGAF as long as they win
Trump knows he doesn't need any of that, and that definitely gives him major power to do as he wishes
but 100% agree with what you both said

this whole canada dust-up is pure distraction. while americans worry about those evil canadians, the epstein files remain locked up.

I will say of all the things going on, Epstein is low on my list, not even really in my top 25 things
yes it sounds horrible and lots of coverup and allegations, trust me there should be justice for those women
but I'd much rather focus on the gestapo and eroding of our democracy before worrying about that
yes I'd love if if there was a smoking gun that showed trump did some evil, but do you really think this FBI/DOJ would actually do anything
MAGA doesn't care at all, so even if it was revealed, wouldn't lose any popularity
so let's focus on not losing the ACA and gerrymandering and destroying our economy and screwing over our actual allies
also, I want to be on record, that this statement does not imply that I don't think the Canadians are evil

so I guess that means it's high on your list
where would you rank it in importance?

This terms Russia hoax. A complete waste of time but hey it prevents democrats from actually having to come up with policy prescriptions. I wonder how much the average American trying to afford rising costs cares or thinks about Epstein?

And also, if this was of such grave importance to Democrats, why didn't they do shit with this when they were in power? Easy answer obviously…can't sink your own, right?

I don’t agree with that one although it is the perception due to the pictures of Bill with Epstein

Then that means Democrats either a) didn't actually care about this (which, probably!), b) are too politically inept to have used this against Trump before he was elected again (that's pretty obvious) or c) both!

I just don’t think Biden believed in pressuring his Attorney General to look for dirt on Trump relating to Epstein. Heck he didn’t even pressure Merrick Garland to move faster on Trump! Also don’t think there is as much there as people think or Trump would have told his DOJ to selectively release the names of the democrats involved.
