Books
this looks interesting:
Punk pioneer Kathleen Hanna recalls the dark side of the music scene
“Rebel Girl,” the new memoir by the Bikini Kill frontwoman and reluctant leader of the Riot Grrrl movement, is stoic and empathetic in equal measure.

I never realized she was the one who told Kurt “you smell like teen spirit “ until now that I am reading Azerrad’s Nirvana bio from 93

On a not completely unrelated note, I have finished the Lucinda book and moved on to this one:

Over halfway through and it's an entertaining read.
It made be remember that I first heard Mudhoney back in 1989, and I figured they were going to be huge. So I went to my local record store and saw that they had some 45's from Sub Pop. In the pile, there was some from a band I *hadn't* heard of, called Nirvana. But at any rate, I was certain that Mudhoney was the far superior band who was going to be huge…so I bought the Muhoney 45. Which I still have.

Definitely going to read the Mudhoney.
Honestly I prefer them to Nirvana.
Finishing the Azerrad book was tough..the last 100-150 pages are all about Courtney and Kurt and heroin and Kurt contradicts himself on just about everything every page. One thing he doesn’t contradict himself on is his feeling that Dave and Chris were parsley and he was 100% Nirvana. It’s still shocking how negatively he speaks about them…. The book ends as they have just put out In Utero and Kurt and Courtney have stopped using. Towards the end is a great chapter about its recording with Albini. Honestly Azerrad comes off as simply a conduit for Kurt and Courtney to get their version of things out. A very mediocre book. Doesn’t help that Kurt is so unlikeable.

this looks like interesting doc as it's the raw audio from the interviews he used to make the book

You got to read her book sidehatch. You will love it
she is like the punk rock Forest Gump!

So I of course did the audible version.
did think that she read it, but found out she only does the intro
but Rosanna Arquette, really knocked it out of the park with her delivery, really thought it was Chrissy
Chrissy would do these excellent descriptions of time and place and Arquette's delivery just made them come alive
Chrissy knows how to tell an engaging tale

I just finished this. It's about what you'd expect. Sly is a drug-addled dick. I was surprised how much side-work he's done though. REO Speedwagon??? Worth the read, mostly because it led me to listening beyond the Greatest Hits.

Sly did some amazing things in music and in general…then he tipped the scales the other way by doing a long list of horrible things (mostly to women, but not exclusively)
Really a visionary and waay before the whole twin-tone/the clash "we should all rock together" attitude towards racism
this book is in my queue
the podcast is defiantly worth it…even if it is 4 hours
also want to check out: Live at the Fillmore East October 4th & 5th, 1968
Just finished Rosanne Cash’s memoir Composed. Beautifully written.
I won’t touch the Sly Stone book with a ten foot pole.

Some have described Murray as a more humorous Irish version of Jonathan Franzen
