V-Fest Prediction / Wishlist

The New York Times screwed up the line-up:

VIRGIN MOBILE FESTIVAL Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, Aug. 9 and 10. Last year it was on the same weekend as Lollapalooza in Chicago. This year the Virgin Mobile Festival â?? formerly just the Virgin Festival, it moves another notch up the licensing scale â?? faces off against a much closer competitor, All Points West in New Jersey. All Points West may have Radiohead, but Virgin has Bob Dylan, Kanye West, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Wilco, Iggy and the Stooges, and the reunited Stone Temple Pilots â?? but no Jack Johnson. (800) 551-7328, virginmobilefestival.com.
Just wishful thinking. :)
Pendulum is no longer listed on the Virgin Mobile Festival Web site. Say it ain't so, Seth.

Also, reviews of the recent STP show in New Jersey say that Weiland was in really awful shape - high as a kite - and the band didn't come on stage for an hour after they were supposed to. Does the V Fest have a contingency plan in case Weiland doesn't make it the whole summer? Things aren't looking good.

Hey Seth, are there going to be more additions? Will there be another Book the Band contest?

I'm still on the fence about whether to go or not. The festival quite honestly is lackluster in my opinion (only BRMC, Dylan, and STP are big draws who aren't on the other big festivals).
Great, just freaking great.
Book The Band is back!

This year's bands involved are:
The Parlor Mob
We Are Scientists
The Virgin
Hollywood Undead
Automatic Loveletter

If either of the first two bands win, we're in for a treat; I haven't heard the other three yet.
My vote goes to We Are Scientists
Great…just freaking great!!!!

Only I get to say that.

the last 2 bands are horrible.

i vote for the Parlor Mob
Seth just make sure Mr. Berry is taken care of! The man is up there if you know what I mean..

I also wanted to say- since you seem to read this thread- that it would be great to bring back the Silver Beats to the 930 Club.. that was seriously one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever seen… really really dug it.. Heck thanks in general… I've seen so many great shows at the 930 including Johnny Cash, both Dylan shows in the 90s, etc…Looking forward to Nick Cave too..

Also, my friend would want me to tell you that he doesn't understand why VIP tickets are sold only in pairs … He only needs one and when you're talking that kind of money I'm not sure why he can't just have one…

quite a few people want to know the answer to this one.
vfest prediction: seth will set the schedule according not to business needs nor fans' wants - instead, his kids will dictate who goes on when.

oh, wait, it's been confirmed :p

Whatever the type, organizers have to create a personality for the festival to set it apart from the competition. "You really have to distinguish yourself from the others if you want to draw people from out of your area," says Seth Hurwitz, concert producer for Baltimore's Virgin Mobile Festival.

Hurwitz likes to create interesting moments within each day, whether that's having Bob Dylan lead into Kanye West's set or asking a Beatles cover band from Japan to back Chuck Berry.

Creating a festival schedule is a balancing act, always giving people something interesting while not splitting an audience by booking similar acts at the same time.

"I use my kids as a barometer," Hurwitz says. "They want to see Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots and Kanye West. Even though those bands are pretty much closing the stages that day, we've worked it out where you could see all three if you wanted to."
I would hope the schedule can come out soon for this event.

Its really going to make or break my decision to go. Lollapalooza's schedule is out way early, i think Vfest should be too!!

Putting the sched out 1 week in advance doesnt allow me enough time.

Perhaps i'm alone but i hope to see it out before July. :)

VIP tickets are sold in pairs because each pair comes with one
premium parking spot. We can, however, sell single VIP tickets
(without parking). They can be purchased at the Merriweather Box
Office or by emailing GroupSales@930.com.
Of course, go figure.
Seth, should we go ahead and expect set times around the same time as last year?
And Seth, are we going to get any additions other than the Book the Band winner?
