wow, i just had a prolonged series of flashbacks reading that list … "what's the frequency kenneth" is the only 90s REM song?? if they're just going for pop culture significance, hows about "eveybody hurts" or "losing my religion"?

mclusky news
Not to be outdone by fellow Welshmen Super Furry Animals' latest vault clearing reissues, recently disbanded trio Mclusky (who threw in the towel this past January after nearly 10 years of service) are compiling a 3xCD career-spanning epitaph for release later this year.
As the band's (now former) manager explained to Pitchfork, the upcoming release will be "a three-disc set consisting of all the band's A-side singles on Disc A, all of the B-sides on Disc B, and then outtakes, rarities, live stuff, and radio session tracks on Disc C." The the full tracklist and a firm street date have yet to be issued, many of the cuts making the final pressing will include UK-only B-sides, as well as previously unreleased material, making the set a convenient one-stop package for U.S. fans.
Mclusky's manager also informs us that singer/songwriter Andrew Falkous and drummer Jack Eggleston are assembling a new outfit with former members of UK act Jarcrew. And while demos have already been cut for a possible album, he's "not sure when anything will happen on this one." Don't worry, we'll keep you posted on any half-assed supergroup shenanigans the lads get themselves into.
And finally, founding member John Chapple, whose reported squabbling with Falkous is cited as a major reason for the band's split, will also be keeping himself busy with a musical rebound– releasing two "mini-albums" with his band Shooting at Unarmed Men. Described by their manager as "a lot scratchier and more lo-fi than Mclusky and a lot less balls-to-the-wall, but still rocking and surprisingly tuneful," the group's album is rumored to be released later this year under the title Soon There Will Be….

Everything I've read about the new Fountains of Wayne disc is that it's basically and emptying the vaults of all their mediocre stuff album. I think I'll wait until their next album.

I have all of their albums, and I thought Welcome Interstate Managers far exceeded their other albums. Their other albums had 3-4 great songs and a lot of filler. Welcome Interstate Managers was excellent all the way through until the last three songs or so, when it tailed off. I'm expecting an album filled with B-sides and other oddities would feel like an album full of filler to me.

Won't be able to make the show tonight, but listening to this one
http://www.matadorrecords.com/laura_cantrell/subway/launcher.html and trying to decide if her "major indie" debut is as good as her first two albums.

I can't wait for the new Hope Chest, supposedly out sometime this July…but you know how those Indies are. I think this one is going to come through though as their momentum is picking up.
