Snow Patrol began work on their new album at the weekend.
Billboard reports that the Northern rockers are in Dingle on an eight-week writing and recording session.
An executive at Snow Patrol's label Fiction Records said: "We hope to have a new record later this year, but it'll be ready when it's ready. We're not putting any pressure on the guys to deliver it. They've got a few tunes in the pipeline and they're pretty confident about them."

Coldplay in No Rush
British rockers' third record bumped back to June
Coldplay have bumped back their long-awaited third album to June. The as-yet-titled follow-up to 2002's A Rush of Blood to the Head was originally due in March, but initial recordings with producer Ken Nelson were scrapped in favor of starting over with A Rush mixer Danton Supple.
"I think we were in no hurry, because the prospect of touring again was so daunting that we felt we should take our time," drummer Will Champion posted on the band's Web site. "As soon as we gave ourselves a proper deadline we started to be much more productive and the stuff we were doing was miles better. It's always the same with us – the best stuff comes when we start to panic."
A Rush was similarly delayed: It was originally targeted for June of 2002 but didn't hit stores until that August. "I'd hate to rush the end of the record," bassist Guy Berryman told Rolling Stone in April of 2002, "because we have to get it in on time."
As for the new album, Champion says the band has completed fourteen to fifteen tracks – including "Square One," "What If" and "The Hardest Part" – and is now paring it down.
Meanwhile, Coldplay will perform at radio station KCRW's Sounds Eclectic Evening in Los Angeles on March 12th before headlining the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 30th. They will then kick off a world tour in the U.K. in June.

Mountain Goats Plan Expanded LP, Set Tour Dates
Rob Mackey reports:
Beyond the Bob Pollards and Jandeks of our insulated lil' bubble, there aren't that many jaw-droppingly prolific musicians whose recorded output is fawn-all-over-able. John Darnielle– a man capable of releasing somewhere in the ballpark of 40 7", 10", 12", CDs, and cassettes over 14 years– is my personal favorite workhorse.
So of course I was all smiles when the Mountain Goat recently announced the release of The Sunset Tree, the follow-up to last year's delightful We Shall All Be Healed. Yup, as reported last month by the Fork, the album is streetin' over in the UK on April 25 and on April 26 in the U.S. But what we didn't tell you back then– 'cause it wasn't news yet– is that the latest Goats offering will also be released as a limited-edition vinyl, featuring home-demo'd versions of the album's tracks, as well as some "adult-contemporary love jams," which reminds us of Darnielle's public love-in for "Ignition (Remix)" over at Last Plane to Jakarta. So if we keep them fingers crossed, kids, maybe the Mountain Goats'll be sippin' on coke and rum, 'cause they're like "so what, I'm drunk!" come late April.
The CD version of The Sunset Tree was produced by John Vanderslice and features the work of Franklin Bruno and acclaimed jazz cellist Eric Freidlander, among other guests. Like its predecessor, it's a set of personal and often dark lyrics combined with upbeat melodies. As previously reported, its tracklisting is:
01 You or Your Memory
02 Broom People
03 This Year
04 Dilaudid
05 Dance Music
06 Dinu Lipatti's Bones
07 Up the Wolves
08 Lion's Teeth
09 Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod?
10 Magpie
11 Song for Dennis Brown
12 Love Love Love
13 Pale Green Things

Pernice Brothers:
We're telling you first, before we alert the pundits and the scenesters and the music business glitterati (they won't take our calls anyway). The title of the new album is "Discover a Lovelier You." It will be released in the US on June 14, 2005, which is of course Flag Day. I don't have release dates yet in other countries, as I don't know when their Flag Days are, but as soon as I hear from One Little Indian, who is releasing in the UK and Europe, and Spunk, who is releasing in Australia, I will let you know.

I've only listened once and I was underwhelmed. Seems like they got farther from the punk edge of 100 Broken Windows and more toward a Coldplay sound.

I heard something about a new Flaming Lips album to be released later this year. It's called "At War With the Mystics" or something like that.

seems pretty good
After a month-long European trek, the Go-Betweens plan to return to the U.S. in June.
I've got a general question. I don't understand the interest in getting an album title or track names months before a release. It doesn't tell me anything. Am I missing something? I'm interested in the release date of an upcoming album, but lots of pre-release info seems useless. Not criticizing anyone's approach to their music luv, just wondering.
