You saw them last year; are Van Der Graaf Generator worth $30?

I was in for sure until I found out what it cost.

Me too…plus David Jackson is no longer with the band, and seeing him play double sax was always a big part of the draw of the elusive VdGG show…

yes.  absolutely, undoubtedly, yes.  i saw them at nearfest on friday and in nyc last night. the four van der graaf shows i've seen rank as some of the very best shows i've ever seen.

they'll play for an hour and 45 minutes, which will consist of four or five new ones, and five or six from the 1971-1976 period.  seeing "the sleepwalkers" and "man-erg" live will send chills down your spine.  peter hammill's vocals are as intense as they ever were, guy evans is one of the most underrated drummers in rock history, and hugh banton still has a massive organ sound.  david jackson is an important part of the band, but he isn't really missed, believe it or not.

seriously, if you are a VDGG fan, do NOT miss this opportunity to see them.  it will be the best $30 concert you will see this year.

I enjoyed it thoroughly, Peter Hammill's voice was in pretty good shape for being almost 61…, Guy Evans is a monster, a huge drummer; and Banton is a master in organ. I wrote a review for a Chilean web site. Feel free to check it out and practice your Spanish  ;D
there are a couple more pics there also.

Was out of town for awhile which was one of the reasons I, unfortunately, missed this show. Very, very sorry I couldn't make it. Loved them since high school. One of my favorite bands back then.

Lagas, thanks so much for all the cool pictures you've been posting and for the link above. Nice article, btw. I'll have to send that site link to a friend in Chile.

Searched around in there and found some things on The Ganjas. (Walkonby just sat up at attention. ;D ) Discovered them about 2 years ago and loved them ever since. Finally got my hands on their CD Daybreak awhile ago and have been airing a bunch of cuts from it on Air Atlantic Underground Radio. Only days ago I got the rest of their works and have just started to listen through them now. Really love that band! Can't wait to get some more of their music uploaded to the station.

Thanks to your site, I can post this:

I missed it, too due to being exhausted after a long exam that day. Bummer.
Skygreen Leopards are looking for some help filling in a couple dates for our early August tour. ….Philadelphia…., ….Providence…., ….Baltimore.., ..DC…. would be especially nice.

Best,

SGL?s

cool, i'll see what i can do…i really dig skygreen leopards.
Donovan Quinn's last record was amazing, really too bad more people didn't hear it. I would love to see them come to town.

well are we getting Sunn O))) or not???  :D
:D
Evangelista are releasing a new album in October and touring for it later in the fall (looks like a Euro tour is already set).
That Velvet show was one of my favs of last year and I'd love to get another one this year.

And Tinymixtapes has the first track of the album up.
I'll throw this one out there now although it sounds as though it's a little way off.

Rick Bishop:
"I will be recording with Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano in September and I would really like to tour with that lineup."

From this interview.

Is there even a slim chance of getting Current 93 down here some time around the march or april 2010 NYC dates? I'm guessing David's demands are absurd.

Papa M is playing Live From a Shark's Cage on a few west coast dates. We gotta get this if he comes out east.
Sun Araw/Oneohtrix Point Never?

They're doing a few dates together in the northeast including Brooklyn and Philly in late February. Something like that should draw decently at Velvet.
From Chasny's website:
"Rangda is heading out on a UK/Euro tour. Dates are Here. We'll be documenting every show to hopefully do a live record later on. Dates are being booked
for a US tour as well in September. Keep your eyes peeled."

Please do what you can to not let this end up at DC9.
damn right…thanks for the tip, i'll contact chasny myself and make sure to tell him to tell his agent to go through me. dc9 is getting shows it does not deserve.
