in DC you never know. I have never once gotten tickets to a Black Cat show on the night of the event. partially cause i dont go during the week, cause i wont be home til after 1am. weekend shows almost always sell out….

also, I have been to the 930 club one too many times to see a show and its sold out at the door.

you never know with DC. Baltimore, almost nothing sells out. plus i can stop by the venue.

Seeing as numerous people didn't get tickets for the Bloc Party. I wonder if we can get the powers to be to swap Virginia Coalition, at the 9:30 club, for The Bloc Party. They are only after all a local band…
kosmo this is the best idea i've heard all week!

Go to shows by bands other than the latest NME and Spin cover boys and you'll have better luck.

you mean Ricky Skaggs?

no thanks.
Clem Snide and Archer Prewitt played Black Cat recently on a Friday night. Bet that was a quality show that didn't sell out.

you mean redneck country bands with no talent like the shows you go to?

no thanks.

i have 2 Clem Snide records and they are CERTAINLY not quality. they suck really bad. that dudes voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

really. its the country equivalent to Bright Eyes.
perhaps i may buy tickets to see The Kills

i suppose that show will sell out too though.
I agree that his voice is annoying, but they do put on a quality live show. I'll bet Archer Prewitt is good as well.

What is most annoying about Bright Eyes is his look and his personality, even more than his voice.

oh, the "discerning" Rhett has spoken.

but i can sort of agree. after seeing the Bravery, i would be embarassed to say i liked those foolish looking jerkoffs. (i did like them i guess, but thier live show turned me O-F-F)

I completely agree.

Where does this motherfucker get the nerve to tell an audience in Texas that their state sucks and he'd never want to live there when the guy is from motherfucking Nebraska!!

He and his unreasonably bombastic music suck.
if anyone has an extra bloc party ticket and wants an interpol ticket for friday, i would be willing to trade.
have bloc party been played on the o.c. or something? stupid o.c. *grumble grumble*

Ohmygod, I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I heard he moved to NYC. At least there he can keep company with 10 million other people just like him.

Not yet, but they played SF last night and I'll give a short review.

I was completely hounded outside the club for tickets. Bottom of the Hill holds 275 people, and Bloc Party easily could have doubled that. It's Popscene here tonight and they're playing again tonight - tickets are available day of only and the line will be ridiculous.

The first act was interesting at best. Dance Disaster Movement set up their gear on the floor instead of on stage and the artists ran around screaming in the faces of the fans who were there to see them. They were a little violent at times even, getting a little rowdy with the fans. I feel this practice will be short lived.

The second act was an all female band, Erase Eratta. They were not hot in the slightest, but the bass player played like Les Claypool at times and the drummer shredded. The lead singer was punkish in a lesbian kind of way, and while I didn't care much for the songs, they were decent musicians.

Bloc Party were enrgetic throughout. My favorite comment from the crowd came at the very beginning when an "black X on the left hand" (READ: underage viewer) said "Oh, he's African-American." I said "No, he's British" - completely confused the kid. Anyhow, yes, the lead singer is black.

They played a short set (approx. 35 minutes) before coming out for a 4 song encore. "Banquet" was good, but I think my favorite track was "The Answer," which they ended with. They definetely didn't lack energy, and while some songs are catchy, they don't have a lot of singles material. The drummer was on the verge of going Mitch Mitchell on many occasions but seemed a bit held back by the band, which was disappointing. They play a good mix of music, some dancable, some more mellow, but don't seem to caught up in themselves. The lead singer at least seemed to really enjoy preforming for a crowd and was fine with a little banter from the crowd. Not your typical British pompous indie rock star I guess.

They played (all from memory and not in any order so I'm likely wrong on a couple of occasions) Banquet, Helicopter, The Marshalls are Dead, She's hearing voice, Like eating glass, positive tension, this modern love, the price of gas, so here we are, luno, little thoughts, staying fat, tulips, The Answer.

I thought they were good, not great, better than the Bravery though on the "good not great scale." Well worth the $10, but I don't see myself dropping $25 or $30 to see them again unless the follow up album is brilliant.
Come on, how can you hate him so much?

Oh wait, now I see…

are you making it out to popscene? its a great *little* place, unless they're not on ritch street anymore. it seems everyone that played thurs nights in SF always went there after the show. and the bottom of the hill has always been a fun place to see shows. Of course, last time i went there a friend and i made the mistake of speaking bad about the main act, and the guys were drinking right next to us outside.. *oops* i think that may have been the candyskins and damn that was a long while back.

Wow. I'd actually consider paying money to see that. Not a lot of money, and I'd watch from the balcony, but it could be mildly entertaining. Mainly, I'd just be secretly hoping that one the "fans" would get angry at the guy yelling in his face and slug him.
