Rhett is hotter, and has charming rather than annoying stage moves…and he actually PLAYS AN INSTRUMENT…so there!

That being said, I thought GBV were pretty alright…I'd buy one of their CDs if it were 2.50-5.00 at the CD Exchange (and that is not meant as an insult)

Bob Pollard writes most of the music on the albums also. He has found it hard to remember the chords and the lyrics while preforming (a show has upwards of 60 songs and last for 3 hours) so he has chosen to sing instead of playing guitar.

if you liked the show, you probably won't like the recorded material. Too lo-fi for anyone that has been commenting about this show.

As for you Rhett, you are in a league of your own. Must be fun to get your jollies out of causing a stir.

Their lo-fi days are behind them, they moved more towards power pop, but now are somewhere in the middle. Ocasek was 4 albums ago, and will never happen again. Ocasek kept telling Pollard that Hold on Hope would break the band big, it is a horrible ballad and Pollard's least favorite song. They don't care for working with producers who are known for their own sound anymore.

well, he only produced one of the albums (probably their worst album too). yeah, they stopped being lo-fi when the signed up with tvt, but are rawking more with matador. i thought toby was the better songwriter though.

the GBV moniker has turned more towards mid-fi, however the FCS (Fading Captain Series) leans more toward the experimental/lo-fi.

From my post before Tobin was the McCartney, Bob was the Lennon. Well that is how the guy on KCRW referred to them.

If you are just getting into them I probably would start with Isolation Drills, and work my way backwards, Then go to UTAC and EG. Staying away from DtC all together.

Bob's solo stuff blows away anything in my personal opinion. Kid Marine, Not in my Airforce are both masterpieces.
