They had three downs to work with, with 26 seconds and one timeout. That's not enough time for three running plays.
To be fair, they had 26 seconds left because they let 30 seconds run off the clock. If they wanted to run on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down with only one timeout, they could've done that by getting the play snapped 20 seconds earlier.
Right, but if Seattle had snapped the ball earlier and then scored on that play, Brady would have had a lot of time left to get the tying FG. But in the end, Carroll just outsmarted himself.

'According to Baltimore County police, the officer stopped Pierce's 2014 Ford Mustang about 2 a.m. after his radar showed Pierce's car going 55 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer then noticed "an odor of an alcoholic beverage from his breath" as well as slurred speech and dilated pupils, according to the statement of probable cause. The officer wrote that Pierce said he'd had three shots of Jack Daniels and he saw Pierce fumble getting his driver's license out of his wallet. He also twice told the officer that he weighed 530 pounds.'

I refuse to watch one second of XFL unless Vince does a 180 and allows the players to put nicknames on the back of the uniforms like in the original XFL.
