Hate to interrupt the bitchfest that I've been thoroughly enjoying, but has anyone any real idea of how long it's been since Radiohead has performed Fake Plastic Trees? Or how rare it is for them to perform it in the last few years?
Radiohead Roll Call
It was pretty miserable getting there, but I don't think it would've been that bad if it wasn't for the rain. A friend who had a head start on us told my group about a back way in. So he got in with minimal traffic, but I think by the time we got there, that entrance had just closed because of flooding. Fortunately, we still got in on time to see the whole set. We paid for the premium parking which was probably the best decision ever. We got out of the parking lot relatively quickly and made it back to DC in a little over an hour.
Nissan still sucks, and I wouldn't go there for any other band. But this was the first time I ever got pit tix to see them, and so I was pretty happy. Amazing show, and I can't wait to see 'em again at APW. Hopefully, the weather is better for that…
Seriously, it's unbelievable the luck DC fans have with the weather. I guess if we're ever in a drought, we should just call Radiohead…

If Radiohead = Bad area weather, then I blame them for my 13 hour drive home from a wedding in Charlotte, NC. Even parts of Rt. 1 were closed.

they've played it roughly half the times i've seen them. 'high and dry' is the song from the bends (that was a single) that they never play. it hasn't been played since at least 1997. i'd say you're as likely to hear FPT as you are to hear 'just'.

So my guess is they decided to play it at the last minute for the fans who got here late (it was dedicated to those "stuck in the rain"). That's pretty cool of them.
Also, if anyone is curious, here is what they soundchecked:
Knives Out
2+2=5
Jigsaw (about 3 or 4 times actually)
All I Need
Down is the New Up
too bad we didn't get DITNU - but still, amazing setlist.

As a side note, from reading all of these various comments all over the web, it seems I barely made it in through the "back way" (ball ford road) before it flooded. When I arrived at Nissan at 7pm there was a massive and very deep area of standing water nearly completly covering the entirety of both lanes of the road just before the entrance. I wouldn't be surprised if it had caused the closure of that road within 20 minutes after I passed it.

sorry, but thats the worst solution i've ever heard. [/QB]
I'm fine with either really (although personally, if I had posted almost 10,000 on ANY message board, I think I'd tell myself to get a freaking life - but that's just me…)
Heres another fun story:
When we got in and i went to get my wife a coffee and me a beer i ordered…she very rudely told me "no coffee or hot chocolate." So i just ordered a beer. $8, fair enough.
Gave her a $10 she gave me $2 back and as i was getting ready to walk away she says "can i have a tip?" and i said "yeah, get some hot chocolate over here, its fucking cold out!"
can i have a tip? please.

Originally posted by sweetcell:Correct answer. What does the Nissan Pavilion do for Prince William county (besides a tax payment)? Nothing. It's not like MPP or the Verizon Center where the surrounding neighborhood benefits economically by having patrons hang out in their bars and restaurants before and after the show. All it does for the county residents is fuck up their traffic 2-3 times a week during the summer (I've got a friend who lives off of Linton Hall road) and drain their resources for police and traffic control.
what nissan really needs is more roads going out of their parking lots and to Hwy 66. that's just not going to happen, given the co$t and i suspect the neighborhood's displeasure with the venue (they don't want it to expand).
So what incentive does PW county have for helping the place out? I'd be curious to see what the arrangement is between the county and Live Nation for revenue, taxes, etc..
The reason the Nissan Pavilion continues to operate is the same reason people continue to pay $4/gallon for gasoline.
Oh - and I'll save you the trouble… we've established that I'm old. I'm also apparently ignorant. And, I'm confident you think I'm a dick after my last post.
So, I've accepted all that. When you come up with anything more intelligent to come back at me with, feel free to post.
I'm out for now - my number of posts is creeping too close to triple digits for my taste. I hope not to cross that threshold for a while.
I'm off to see if the rain has chilled a bit yet and get some lunch. If I choke on it - you won't have to worry about anymore ignorant posts from me.
Later dudes.

and if you really want my solution (which i'm sure you dont give a shit about) it would have been to cancel the show. If the roads are not passable , the show must be cancelled. and its not Radioheads determination, i dont believe.
and how do you even know they were aware of people not getting in? I just cant believe you're complaining cause they played too long!! of all the things to complain about.

Um, Nissan allows High Schools in PWC to hold gradutaions there for free. Which is definitely something its does for the county.
And as for Radiohead, fucking amazing.
As for the lack of side video screens, I stood on the lawn, and was glad they didn't allow these screens. I think it would have ruined what the band tried to create with their light setup, which was fantastic. The mini video screen behind the band was very cool though. But I think side screens would have looked weird with all the lights.
