OFFICIAL Virgin Mobile FREEFEST 2009 Q/A - Hype Thread! REVISED

A Daptone Records curated stage would suit nicely

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings
Budos Band
Menahan Street Band
etc

Toss in Bettye LaVette, Mavis Staples, Spanky Wilson and Van Hunt

DJ Requests

Derrick May
Mike Huckaby
Terrence Parker
Aux 88 live PA
Cassy
Cobblestone Jazz
DBX
Carl Craig DJ or Live PA
Moodymann

Second the request for the Von Bondies, while a bit slick production wise, am enjoying their latest record
The Features
Tinted Windows
The Romantics
Rancid
Phoenix
a couple additions…

Iggy Pop
Phoenix
Rodriquez
Andre Williams
Amp Fiddler

I predict that maybe 2500 people would attend my festival, probably 4000 if it were free…

I saw Aux 88 do a live PA back in Cleveland i believe a LONG time ago. it was quite entertaining, in a soul train meets breakdancing sort of way.

I dont know that many of my requests are time relevant as far as DJs go, but i would love to see

Robert Armani
Carl Cox (like, he can play every year, please)
Derrick Carter
Dave Clarke
Ricardo Villalobos

and i truly think we need some sort of Dutch/German gabber DJ to play just to freak everyone out really bad.

can i wish for Radiohead?

haha
some DJs/acts I'd like to see for a dance tent:

adam freeland
luke vibert
plump djs
glitch mob
roni size
gui boratto
mark farina
frankie bones
amon tobin
MANDY

hey seth… Orbital is back and is doing shows in the UK…. just sayin'…
well pat benatar is playing in BK on 8/13 w/Blondie, so its possible you could get at least one on your wishlist :)

Thank you. This topic definitely needed a remake.

But what if there were links to the different posts with the different staff in the first post? That would make this topic much easier to navigate.

BRMC are supposedly not touring until the next album (which is in production as we speak, and has no label yet). Of course they said this before and completely ignored it, but so far this year their sticking to it (aside from a trip to Poland). I wouldn't count on it, and I'd definitely be surprised.

I hope there's nobody in the lineup I really want to see because I can't afford these festival things :P

They've been pretty quite lately so I kind of knew they were stashed away working on an album which is why I said that I doubted they would be at the festival but who knows. Aren't they out in L.A.? That makes it less likely we'll see them for awhile. If they were here in the East than they would be more likely to consider taking a break and playing if the money was right or they just needed to get out for a bit.

See, the BRMC affect is something that I've noticed awhile ago and thought that the time was right to mention it. ;D

One thing that is sort of bugging me about this thread is that it's title notes your 'predicions' but a lot of people are listing their 'wishes'. Two totally different things. Honestly, I'm not going to even bother with my wishes since I know that about 99% of them won't be on the bill. Probably 100% for that matter.

Regarding 'predictions', well, other than my Animal Collective post, I think the rest of you have a much better handle on that than I. So, carry on….
I'm glad to see *one* other person mentioned Franz Ferdinand. I really hope they get on the bill, they haven't gotten to do many festivals over here this year (Coachella and Bumbershoot), but are doing tons in the UK and Europe.

Come to think of it, they'll be in the states with Green Day through August 25th. Shouldn't be a problem to get them. Someone? Anyone?
Kosmo's list FTW!

And like Jaguar, my predictions list and wishlist would most likely be mutually exclusive.

Can't five or six of us get together and put on something? :)
Faith No More
Swervedriver
Fugazi (probably wouldn't happen in a millon years but I can dream can't I)?
Rollins Band

Since this year will most probably be at the merriweather, do you think we'll be seeing major bands, way beyond weezer and blink 182?

Not at all.

It just doesn't seem logical to have a band play a festival at a venue that they could easily sell out on their own.
y'all be forgetting that, IMHO, the "regular" merriweather stage will be vfest's second stage. the festival's "main stage" will be set up out in a parking lot, will be all-GA, and will potentially be able to accommodate more people than the "regular" stage. so while blink+weezer might easily sell out merriweather's regular stage, they'll need help with an expanded GA-only parking lot stage.
Great 'smaller' acts >>>> a few good headliners

not necessarily. when HFStival was held there, the main stage was the ampitheater with smaller acts in the parking lot.

I think the best set up would be a combo of two stages in the lot going rapid fire one after another (they do this for warped tour) but this would drastically cut down on attendance unless a 3rd stage (the pavilion) was used.

Ultimately, as Vfest did last year, there was no real main stage or side stage really as far as acts went, at least not for the last few bands.

Also, to comment on gaaaah's comment, i dont see that Seth would necesarily only book the amount of bands he thinks will sell X amount of tickets. not only is he trying to build a brand, but there will be something to make up for with the venue change and all. plus, if the fest is 2 nights, with Weezer and Blink playing one night, someone has to play the other.

Here here.

Without the huge acts, tickets would cost much less. I'd be more inclined to go to a festival where I wouldn't have to shell out nearly $100/day; much (most?) of which would go to an act(s) I'd have no interest in seeing.

Anyone else really want to hear that Antony/Herbert colabboration live? I do after hearing a recording of the Coachella set.

I have been told the second stage will be in symphony woods. The main stage will be the actual pavilion.
I'm not really a huge fan of either, but from the few videos I saw, this was pretty rad.
