OFFICIAL Virgin Mobile FREEFEST 2009 Q/A - Hype Thread! REVISED

i'm curious if the "price raping" will begin when people show up at the venue on the day of the show?  i.e., $20 to park, double the normal cost of food/drinks, pay to pee, etc……  this is what happened at many venues when "free" ozzfest rolled around the country in 2007.
There is still the chance to win Free.I.P tickets for doing volunteer work.

And one would have to think there are going to be ticket giveaways and raids in the offing.
I get my tickets like 10:02 a.m and roommate get his about the same time on his laptop

I believe parking at the venue is going to be free.  If not the mall is free either way.

I also don't expect Merriweather the increase prices on food/drinks.
20 dollar beers

1. If there's going to be a price raping, then people should start buying tickets now as they go cheap. And there IS going to be a price raping.

2. Later starting June 29th i think, you can win VIP tickets (just vip seating) by doing 13 hours of community service at posted homeless youth areas.

3. Parking is FREE.

4. I heard during richard branson's interview with jimmy fallon that he might arrange free flights (virgin america) from the west coast to the east. But I think that's too far fetched, or I didn't hear right.

5. Food prices should be same. same with drinks

6. The difference between Free.I.P. tickets and the GA tickets is the seating, that's it.
Fuck that.

Anyone who pays anything for these tickets is part of the problem. And buying from random strangers near Merriweather will not happen; I'm sure security will insure that. If any tickets will change hands on the day of near the venue, it'll be for nothing.

Yeah I know, it's been a rough 3 days for everyone. I think the problem about these free shows is the control. I don't know who to blame: TM, VM, the people, or no one at all. There were people who were Virgin Mobile customers, and past festival attendees, who never got an email or a hint about the presale on Thursday. Plus, I was looking around in google today, international or not, many forums were spreading the password amongst themselves for the morning presale. There were people who never even heard of Virgin Mobile festival, and they got their hands on the password, and successfully purchased their tickets on that morning. And yes, you are correct about the security ensuring that no one exchanges tickets near the pavilion.

The only hope is to purchase them online, but that does indeed ruin the fun of a "Freefest." So it all comes down to this: Scalpers having their field day, sweeping the tickets, and people are supposed to pay money for "Free" festival. Down right disgusting.
How can you think of blaming anyone?  It's a free fucking concert with 20 bands, at least half of which could get 20 bucks a ticket on their own tour.  Of course come scalpers got their hands on some, why is that so fucking surprising?  I'm so sick of the same old whine-fest every time a show sells out.

There were only 38,000 tickets people.  And for the most part, they were free.  Of course they were going to be gone in an instant.

Sorry you didn't get your tickets, but enough with the crying already.  Either pony up and get some on the secondary market, take your chances at the venue or hope you get lucky and someone give you their extra.  Otherwise, enough with the crying already.

Chaz, I think you read my post wrong. I said "who's to blame: "no one at all"" I was implying that statement. And my previous post before my last one, I said that this kind of activity always happens since it is the nature of scalpers. And, I'm not whining about anything, I successfully got my tickets in the presale on Thursday, so I don't know what you are talking about. I'm relating my last post to the other people, saying that there are many opportunities to get the tickets before August 30th.

Actually I disagree. Tickets right now are probably at their most expensive. Scalpers are trying to sell tickets; as time progresses and they still have tickets, they'll lower their prices a bit to get rid of them. What you see for like 40 dollars now will be like 20 in august. They wont get more expensive.

Its what happened with Radiohead last year. I purchased scalped tickets the day after they went on sale and paid i think 170 a ticket (for pit). As time progressed, that price lowered, and the week of the event, it was at maybe 80 or 90 a ticket. I should have waited :-/ .

That's a good point. As time reaches August 30th, scalpers will be desperate to sell tickets at a lower price, or they may go to the festival themselves haha. The reason why was because last years V-mobile festival, the prices were jacked up in Stubhub for VIP/GA tickets. It was about a 100-200 price increase for most tickets, and they were sold at the end.
So all the tickets are gone? I cant change the number of tickets on any of them except 1 and I tried those and it loaded and said their were none left. I wanted to get some more but eh. I guess not.
Definitely wait to buy tickets..I've seen this repeatedly on Epay.. As the show gets closer the prices go down and by the last day its a buyers market….

Everybody stay cool. There's 35,000 tickets and its not a particularly great lineup. Moreover, we know a lot of the tickets were taken by people that don't even intend to use them!

Yes, the tickets are free, so people are only resulting in buying them for cheap prices, so the scalpers will be forced to lower prices by the date of the event. If the tickets were like $100, it would be the only way around, but not all the time.

Everyone, it's okay, there's more opportunities to get your hands on the tickets! I think I've said this a million times. :.
I really can't believe anyone's shocked that this sold out so quickly, and that they're being scalped.  Even if scalpers have to sell them for less than $20, it's still (mostly) all profit.

That being said, I'm still amazed it sold out that quickly.  I didn't try for any this morning, but the people I know who did got nothing.

Sadly, there really isn't much Seth could have done, short of making sales in person only.  But there would have been complaints either way.

I'm just glad I was able to get two on Thursday.  I'll just exchange the second for a ride home afterwards, and I'm good to go!

It was pretty damn fast, but people will go crazy over the word "free" than "$175" anyday.
I was definitely expecting them to be gone within half an hour, but I figured they'd be easily obtainable if you were online right at 10.

Guess not.
