I believe it's 7/1/23

yep, that's what I read

Oh, fucking beautiful. And there will be retail establishments in need of spokespeople starting on that date?
No.

Oh, so this is going to be a Virginia "its legal to smoke it but virtually anyway you would get it is illegal" thing like Virginia at current?
I'm willing to bet it will take 2-3 years to work out the details on this one.

yep
no retail even discussed
WAMU reported today that the DC Council is about to approve "expanded" medicinal MJ, meaning that it will be easier to qualify and access MJ. I really hope they don't make people fill out paperwork for this crap, I don't want my name on any sort of paperwork about MJ as that could impact my job prospects.

That's why I like the current gray area. Lots of competition means good prices and good service from delivery companies. I know that is exactly why the District is "expanding" medicinal MJ. I really hope they put sufficient thought and consideration into this, which of course I doubt happened beyond medicinal license holders bitching and complaining.
yeah, was reading they are doing some sort of 'self-attestation' of medical need
i.e. you don't need a doctor note to get medical
But I think they are expanding in to medical, as congress won't allow adult rec sales, so this might be a loop hole around and they can collect taxes (I got to imagine DC lost in the range of 100's of millions of dollars in tax revenue over the last few years…and created a black market)

Medical is always way higher in price.  Quality is always there
that they removed this I think is good, mostly because you don't have to pay for a dr visit, which was a sham to begin with

Heck, just go to Mr Nice Guy, about 6 storefronts down from DC9
They have a wall of buds and budtenders will help you find what you need
then you buy some 'art' and they gift you what you want
prices are pretty good IMO
I don't live in DC so delivery isn't really an option.

Adding insult to injury, the large-scale spending legislation continues the policy of preventing the District of Columbia from spending its own local tax dollars to legalize adult-use cannabis sales
The ongoing federal blockade and the resulting inability of local officials to enact cannabis sales regulations has led to a proliferation of unlicensed marijuana retailers in the nation’s capital.
Short of eliminating the filibuster, which Dems are obviously too cowardly to do, we might not have real recreational MJ in DC for decades. The Senate simply isn't going to have enough GQPers who would be willing to vote to allow DC voters to have real autonomy. And the Dems won't shove it up GQP asses, so here we are.

Sir, this is a TAKOMA WELLNESS community, so get that Mr Nice Guy stuff the hell out of here.

Also, the delivery services will deliver to bank parking lots or outside restaurants. I pop a mile down from my Chevy Chase office to the Wells Fargo on Connecticut just across the border at least 5 times a year to grab my wife stuff and I never sit there for more than 15 minutes if I put the order in with a requested time the night before.

that's right up there with "my dog ate my homework"

considering the industry, that kind of performance is a frikken MIRACLE.

Kinda making lou reed looks stupid with his 'first thing you learn is you always have to wait' bit
I literally never wait more than 15 minutes. It’s quite professionalized. Glad to drop the two delivery services I use in a PM if anyone needs.
glad to here DC is moving forward with that, but residents only :(

The bill creates a permanent version of emergency legislation from June that allows adults to self-certify their eligibility for medical marijuana. The short application, available only to those 21 and older, requires an identification, proof of residency and a photo.

I do love the loophole of Self-certifying your eligibility for medical marijuana!

I don't like this. The only thing worse than this compromise is Mendelson shutting down the entire gray market and using police and federal prosecutors to prosecute delivery services. I don't want my name and photo and personal information on anything in writing with medicinal MJ. Period.

Of course, DC wants to shut down the gray market because it wants the missing tax money and it wants the medicinal license holders to shut up. But the gray market was the best way to handle Congress not allowing us to have fully legal recreational MJ sales. There's competition among sellers for good prices, quality and customer service. It's pretty impressive. People who want licenses to buy can go ahead and get them.

I have a feeling that there will be some gray market delivery services that stick around for the reason I just outlined. DC won't use the police and prosecutors to prosecute them and there will be enough demand to keep them in the market.

And if DC does decide to criminally pursue gray market delivery services, I want these asshats like Kenyan McDuffie and Janeese Lewis George and Brianne Nadeau, who like to throw around the term equity when reducing barriers preventing dangerous DC drivers from renewing their licenses, to stand up and scream equity for the drivers (and other businessmen and women) of these delivery services, who are almost all POC and 99.9% non white.

No matter what Phil Mendolson and the DC Council thinks, no one should be criminally prosecuted for MJ in DC, full stop. If that means there's a gray market, suck it up and deal with it until Dems grow some nuts and fight the riders off a future appropriations bill.
Preach and amen
TM-UL speaks the gospel

are they in fact shutting down the gray market and enforcing laws that don’t really exist
The dems really should have used their majority in the house to fix this
There just wasn’t the will and always seems like bigger fish to fry

I hope that mr. Nice guy stays open as that’s exactly what I expect from a retail weed operation

While it will likely impact costs even if there is competition, I do think dc should get their cut in taxes,  millions have just gone into the black market with some shady actors involved (because there is a lot of money and you can’t exactly use a bank or file taxes)

It I am with you on the privacy thing
We get another red wave election and next thing you know they are publishing that info, that could happen
The older I get the more I realize government is usually the problem.
Heard some of these gray market dispensaries are now gifting mushrooms. Is this true? Lol
