The 2009 Albums Thread

Our Lady Peace
"Burn Burn"
July 21, 2009

well, i am excited anyway. the first single "All You Did Was Save my Life" is out on itunes now….
New Brendan Benson album last week of August
just relistened to ac's mpp.  they're still the shit.  and then hc's made in the dark, then the warning.  yeah . . . they're still the shit too.
MPP didn't hold up over time for me as much as I thought it would.

Mono, Antony, Emeralds, The Magik Markers and Sir Richard Bishop are my top 5 in no order right now.
Dinosaur Jr. - Farm

Sounds like…uhh…Dinosaur Jr.

Which gives it automatic top 10 of year status if you're a Dino Jr. fan unless you're walkonby. But those of us who love and cherish the four other albums (that shit between Bug and Beyond didn't count) will treasure this one as well.
I have not gotten around to the new Dino Jr album yet.  I downloaded it yesterday, but have been distracted with other albums.

I've read some good things, though, saying it's better than Beyond (which I liked), so I'm psyched to blast it tomorrow.
I didnt search through the thread, I just stumbled on this. Probably old news.

Arctic Monkeys are pleased to announce they will be releasing their as-yet-untitled third album on Monday 24th August 2009.

Produced by Josh Homme in the Mojave Desert and LA, and with James Ford in Brooklyn, the album features ten new Arctic Monkeys songs.

The tracklisting is as follows:

01. My Propeller
02. Crying Lightning
03. Dangerous Animals
04. Secret Door
05. Potion Approaching
06. Fire & The Thud
07. Cornerstone
08. Dance Little Liar
09. Pretty Visitors
10. The Jeweller's Hands

Josh Homme + Alex Turner = *swoon*
Top five for me so far this year: Asobi Seksu, 93MillionMilesFromTheSun, AC Newman, White Rabbits, and Screen Vinyl Image.
So far my tops are:

Spc-Eco - 3-D
93MillionMilesFromTheSun - 93MillionMilesFromTheSun
Screen Vinyl Image - Interceptors

Top EPs:

Scarlet Youth - Breaking The Patterns
Foreign Cinema - Non-Synchronous Sound

Hearts Of Black Science have all but one of their songs completed for their next album so I'm kind of expecting that maybe for the Christmas season. Looking forward to that.

Lots of boring slow songs on this one, unfortunately.

you've been sucked into the asshole Lou Barlow trap as well?  Green Mind and Where You Been were every bit as good as anything done before.  I havent gotten Farm yet, though. I wish they would kick Lou out of the band again.

Where You Been is Dino's strongest album, IMO. But hey, every album has something great to offer. Without a Sound even has some incredible moments. I think "On the Way" is my favorite song of J's. Genius.
'Farm' is pretty good but lacks the visceral punch of 'Beyond', which ended up being both immediately awesome and long-lasting. I really dug that album. And was pleased to see some people piping up in defense of Dino Jr's 90s output. Where You Been, for me, is just behind Bug as the best Dino Jr album. Living All Over Me is a great record to be sure, but I've always liked Bug the best. It was the first Dino album I heard, so that's a factor.

All that said, nothing has grabbed me this year as much as Fever Ray other than the Boss Hogg Outlawz, but that was 08.

Green Mind, maybe. WYB and WAS, still great, but not as good.

Farm is like a B+ to me. Not as good as Beyone.
all this dinosaur talk has my

after hearing the new dinosaur song . . . i'm back in the fold.
My copy of the Dangermouse/Sparklehorse album along book and blank CDR just arrived. I was thinking it was going to be released as a standard CD booklet, but actually it's a hard covered book about 8.5 x 11 size.  Part of me wants to leave the plastic wrap intact, but I'm curious about seeing David Lynch's photography inside.
