the short attention span review…
jellyfish channeling prince + pianosaurus = self gizmodgery
a huge thanks for prompting me to dig this one out of the archives, it got overlooked when i got my hands on it. my reaction when relistening to it this morning was WOW is this a great record. its got great mixtape potential. hard to believe that toy instruments can sound so funky. i love the sprinkling of toy pianos and xylophones on top of some distorted toy guitars and drums.
the list of toys used in the recording is pretty amusing as well… in addition to various toy pianos and guitaris also listed is centipede, my 1st years spinning toy, my first football, my 1st shaver and assorted generic toy cell phones…
cool record

Best thing I've heard to come out of the UK in quite some time. Highly recommended if you liked the first one.

He forgot to mention that they are all vietnam vets who played in a surf rock band.

shrug…. try selfies.com for downloads of other self tracks.
it reminds of beck a little… i've seen both positive and so-so reviews of the record. basically if you like pure pop songs it's the use of the toy instruments that make it quirky…

horrible and twangy or horrible because it is twangy? It should not be a surprise, he has been heading that direction for a while.

As far as how good of a job he does at being twangy…well, i really dont listen to twangy music…but it IS Frank Black, so it cant be that bad i guess.
I wont listen to it again.
I think he played some of it last time he was in town, and I liked it, so I guess I will pick it up tonight, along with all the other things that came out today.

I bet if you played Rosie Thomas first album for people who did not know it, some would guess it was Sarah McLachlan

Yes, but with less production. I think Sarah is a bit more over the top.
