but he should checkout both and make an imformed decision.

Radiohead? I really dont think so. More like space vs suede. I dont hear any radiohead in there at all. But then Americans say all British acts sound like radiohead. Even the ones conceived before radiohead.
Peter Bruntnell doesn't sound like Radiohead. Neither does Grand Drive.

i think you are crazy
i'm listening to turin breaks again and it reminds me 90's britpop lazily strummed acoustic guitars with some electronic elements.(radiohead, coldplay, etc). it also has a bit of 70's glam influence as well.

i listen to the new pernice brothers and it reminds me of the smiths with the shimmering guitars and clever wordplay.

mankie may like one, both or neither… i'm just thinking he may gleam on to the pernice brothers first.
I'm not that keen on Radiohead so don't give much hope of a rip-off band.

I'm not big on rip-off bands as you know..Interfuckingpol for example.

that sounds like neither radiohead or coldplay, more like suede and space. Do you think coldplay sound like radiohead?

Pernice brothers sound really American to me. I didnt pick up on any great wordplay or lyrical content either. Do you have an example?

Pernice Brother's are sounding more and more interesting…thanks to Kosmo's intelligent description. "reminding me of" or "influenced by" are fine..it's "blatant rip-off" that gets my goat. I'm also a lyrics person as you've probably figured out by the bands and performers I admire. I read the lyrics before I play the cd of most albums I buy.

crazy was regarding your assertion he would like Turin Brakes more

I prefer the turin brakes. Mankie and I like similar British music. I dont hear anything in the pernice brothers. Maybe thats because I have not listened enough. I couldnt find any Pernice brothers lyrics. Can you give an example?
we could solve this debate quickly with a little "sharing" of music ;)

I have listened to the Pernice Brothers. I ripped Bobs CD. I di'nt hear any interesting lyrics or wordplay. Let me ask for the third time, for either of you to recite some?

I am guessing they are not as a good as "a vicar in a tutu, he's not strange, he just wants to live his life this way"

go start an argument somewhere else

anyone wants to listen can do so here: http://www.pernicebrothers.com/media.shtml
I have looked all over for Joe Pernice's lyrics posted on the web…and there are none. I do have three Pernice Brothers albums, a solo album, and three albums by his former band, Scud Mountain Boys. I can attest to his lyrics being excellent, but couldn't recite any off the top of my head.

I am listening again now.

Its really bland sounding American radio rock. I am not just saying that to wind you up. I just reckon Mankie will think the same. Its not even vaguely like the smiths thats for sure. Perhaps that comparison being so far off base is clouding my judgement.

Still I really dont think Mankie will like it. It sounds much more like the beach boys to me. It sounds very American and Mankie doesnt like anything American.

If you ask me to go somewhere else again. I will.

So thats not like the smiths then?
so I would say mankie NOT liking it is an indicator that it's probably good
Listen to "One Foot in the Grave" and tell me that doesn't sound like a Morrissey solo song.

"Water Ban" is probably the most Smiths-like, though it's not one you can listen to in the samples.

I see more New Order overall than the Smiths, specifically Peyton Pinkerton's guitar work.
you know i think that the smiths magically sprang up out of the cabbage patch and heard no music whats so every. and created a totally unique sound.

oh wait a minute… morrissey was the president of the English New York Dolls fanclub. an american band i do believe.
