From what I heard, it was something to do with the electricity, they were going to let the show go on, but then changed their minds and evacuated the building.
Sleater-Kinney roll call
having been inside and come from far away to see this, and spent much $$ i didn't have to get there, AND noticing they never even mentioned refunds, I have to say that what I heard was basically, the Fire Marshall decided that the club is not capable of hosting a sold-out show. Either (a) ever, or (b) when it's this hot, in which case, thank you global warming for ruining even this little concert!!!
honestly this was one of the more disappointing experiences of my life. :( it might sound like a lot, but if you knew the day, week, month, & year I've been having.. well.. let's just say this was to have been a long-planned moment of celebration in a season without many… "overheated transformer" so they better not schedule the next one when it's going to be hot, meaning in the summer, meaning… GRRR

Well, I just hope that they a) reschedule, and b) reschedule on a day when I can go. Marching out of that club tonight was really disappointing.
i can see canceling the show but why did they have to cancel the webcast?
I didn't get into the club as the show was called off right when arriving there… Bumped into someone who said they were trying to reschedule which is why no refunds were offered right away.
Pure speculation on my part, but seeing as SK have an open date after NYC before lollapalooza on Friday they could reschedule then…. or even come back the beginning of next week.
I'm sure an official club annoucement regarding why the show was cancelled will be offered here, the 9:30 club is very good in that regard…
Yup a disappointing situation to be involved with, but I doubt Sleater-Kinney and the club will let down their fans if at all possible.

I guess my question would be: How will they keep the transformer from overheating on the second go-round, if and when?
I was at a Yo La Tengo show 5-6 years ago that got shut down this way; I can't even remember what happened regarding refunds/rescheduling.
FYI, open nights for both the club and S-K include this coming Thursday, Monday and Tuesday.

As long as it's before next wed. They let us in right before they let us out.
the ticket cost was a small fraction of my cost in coming here, but since they are GA, how can they give refunds? There arne't even records for any but (some of) the ticket *purchasers*, who aren't the same as the ticket holders anyway, in 50% or more of the cases.
S-K message board says a small fire happened outside, but if so, the Fire Dept & police were there well before that. I saw evidence they were never going to let this show happen at all (even wondering whether to let us in during Rogers Sisters), & since they don't give refunds, why in the world would I purchase a ticket for the next-go-around, if I were #(*&@#($&* lucky enough to get in fast enough to buy one? What's to stop the same thing from happeneing again?

I'm going to defer until the 9:30 staff have the matter sorted out, no sense in speculating what might take place.
Knowing that S-K is going on "indefinite hiaitus" we were bitterly disappointed to get kicked out just before they should have gone on for their set. Let's face it, 100 degree temperatures in DC are very unusual and they could cause electricsl problems. In fact, before opening act The Rogers Sisters' set, the club did annouce that PEPCO (the electrical utility) needed someone to move a bike that was chained to a grate right outside the club so they could deal with an issue. I had a bad feeling. The only saving grace was that The Rogers Sisters did a good set. But if S-K doesn't come back and do their show at a time we can make, we will cry and be very angry…
OK…granted I didn't have to travel a long distance or spend a lot of money, and sure I was disappointed, but I want to thank the club for handling everything as professional as they did. Chad in particular, you rock. I arrived to the club at 9pm and was convinced that it was going to be shut down when I saw the fire truck and police cars. The fact that the whole front was closed and you could actually smell smoke was a bit alarming to me. Anyone remember Great White in Rhode Island?? But when they said the show would go on, I said "OK, fine, the fire marshall is there and he must know what he's doing."
That being said, I was not shocked when they pulled the plug. I'm bummed about it, but I think they did everything they possibly could to make the show happen. It's a very hot summer folks…the last thing I want is to be at a concert and running for my life because transformers are blowing up right by the main exit. This sort of thing can happen. So thank you the 9:30 for doing what had to be done and let's hope next time Sleater-Kinney will be able to rock out. And for anyone who traveled to the show from far, it's a shame this happened but that's a risk one takes coming from far to go see a show. It's chance that one takes, and sometimes it doesn't work out.

Well I drove down from B-more after being at work in DC all day and to say the least it's disappointing. Was planning on seeing them Friday but a meeting added today forced me to move my flight back to Chicago back until after their set at Lolla, so the only saving grace is that I have a ticket for the last show on the 12th but with how my luck (yes this is ALL about me) is going there will be a snafu then too. Fortunately I've seen them (as my friend pointed out while I was frantically bitching) over 40 times over the last decade so I'm not exactly starved for S-K live action, nevertheless I'm saddened and if there is a reschedule please be kind and don't do it Sat or Sun (note to Seth)….
this is bogus… I'm really pissed, I had something to say but I :( :o Maybe I'll g0 listen to HAWTHOREn Highets

I work a late shift on Tuesdays and missed the Rogers Sisters entirely; five minutes after I walked in the door they canceled the show. I know the club and the band don't owe us anything, and I have seen S-K before, but man … I really hope they reschedule.

If anyone has to bear blame, I would say it's the DC Public Works Dept and Pepco. Between exploding manhole covers in Georgetown and almost-exploding ones outside the 9:30 front door, the city needs to re-evaluate it's supply/demand on an antiquated system.

So which Sleater Kinney member would y'all most want to sleep with?
yup it was most sad, and hopefully the rescheduling will occur. But if not, cherish your S-K memories of the past. I've only seen them once before, and that was at the Belle + Sebastian DAR show a couple years ago, wwhich rocked me most heavily and inspired me to grab "The Woods" and to become a fan.
So in that thread of thought … when were YOUR most favorite S-K moments ??

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucck, that was frustrating I understand it was no oneâ??s fault..shit just happens but its still quite a letdown. :(
when were YOUR most favorite S-K moments ??Watching them play "dude looks like a lady" at Ladyfest in Olympia, Wa.
yea, tonight was fucked. oh well, shit happens and better to have cancelled than risk something serious. i really hope they reschedule but if seth, sleater-kinney and everyone involved is smart, they should NOT HAVE IT THIS THURSDAY. it's supposed to reach 100 again before dropping to a cool 90 on friday. we don't want a repeat of tonight.
