Sleater-Kinney roll call

I got a call from Tickets.com about the reschedule, too. Amazing.

Regarding my earlier remark about crediting the crowd for not doing anything stupid, I say consider the situation:

It was hot as hell.

The show was sold out.

S-K is calling it quits and a lot of us knew their last shows are scheduled for next week. So we realized there might not be another show, ever.

The announcement to evacuate came just as the crowd was expecting S-K to go on stage. Passions were high. And a few drunks and twits were trying to incite the crowd.

So I still say it was pretty impressive that people generally kept their cool. And what's wrong with praising good behavior, Mom?
I'm one of those people who flew in for the show (from Calgary) and now I'm back home. I still have my ticket stub for the show. Any shot at a refund?
I always praise good behavior in an emotionally charged situation. The club was under no obligation to reschedule – they could have kept our money and said tough luck. The band was under no obligation – playing tomorrow means doing three shows in three days with more than 1,000 miles to travel, both readymade excuses.

Yay to the 9:30 Club, Sleater-Kinney, Pepco, the fire department and the vast majority of the crowd who acted like adults and didn't flip out.

I take back all the mean things I say about D.C. ;)

Anyone unable to attend the new date needs to either drop off or mail in his or her ticket stub. Mailed stubs must be postmarked no later than 8/4/06 and we will not accept tickets in person after 8/4/06:

A little nugget of info for those of you still looking for tickets. From sleater-kinney.com

"NOTE: Due to the unfortunate fact that some people will not be able to make it to the rescheduled gig, there will be an indeterminate amount of tickets available at the box office the night of the show"

good luck!
where was seth in all of this? is he still in the hamptons?
While I'm not about to climax over how wonderful 930 is (best club in the country? best place to see live music? c'mon), they did very well taking care of us and rescheduling the show.

However, I am a little peeved about parking. I was told yesterday by the club that they'd have a list, but now the official word on the site is that there are no guarantees. It just doesn't sit right with me to think that I might have paid $10 to park to see the shitty Rogers Sisters.

Ah well. In the end, I'm going to blame global warming.

You missed the memo, we're blaming Israel…..

dunno about this one… have a hard time believing the club endorsed this, it's great that the band wants fans to get into an other soldout show but at what point will the club be able determined how many tickets are actually available, not all in person refunds will have been provided, etc…

providing the possibility that people could get in they show up in this heat could lead to a real headache for all of those involved.

You may find larger venues or venues in better neighborhoods. You may have an affinity for a particular club because it's in your home town or you saw the best show of your life there. But here's what you won't find; a better staff, higher quality sound (for the size of the room), a more impressive schedule or more loyal patrons.

So all that combined tells me that 9:30 is hands down the best live music venue in the country. Of course I'm a little bias. After all you may prefer the corporate owned, cookie cutter, no character, no history venues like House of Blues?

To each their own.

Kosmo is correct. Don't count on it. That being said… we are considering releasing a small number of tickets to be sold to the public.

9:30 is certainly very good, but "best live music venue in the country" is a bit hyperbolic. That "impressive schedule" includes the Wreckers, Teddy Geiger, and Starsailor. And does the great staff include the guy who didn't show up for parking on Tuesday, or the other guy who covered for him by chatting on his phone and ignoring people?

Every venue has its weaknesses. 9:30 may have fewer than most (schedule and location are the only big ones). But to think it's the best of all the thousands of clubs in the country is a big stretch.

Anyway, all that really matters to me right now is that rescheduling s-k so quickly is a Good Thing.

Good thing your opinion is in the vast minority. Oh and I guess all those industry awards for "Best Live Music Venue" were just so we could keep stroking our own egos?
Christopher Cross won the Grammy for best new artist.

Totally unrelated question:
At Tuesday's set by the Rogers Sisters, we were wondering if there was anything out of the ordinary about the female singer's legs. I don't mean to sound sleazy, but from where we were, it looked like she either had weird tattoos or scars, or if it was just the light and shadows. It was bugging us the whole time and we're still debating it. Was anyone close enough to shed some light on this very important topic?
wait were people complaining about a lovefest for the 930 club on the 930 club message board

awesome

No, you've made it clear you can stroke your ego very well on your own, Cap'n Sardonic. I'm fine with being in the minority.

Anyway, we're arguing about whether 9:30 is merely "very good" or "the best," which wasn't what I wanted to get into with my original post. Let's just agree that it's the best in DC. I was just pointing out that the parking situation has been the weak point in a great overall effort.
