In Which I Share With You the Best Song that Played as I Grocery Shopped

Wed 9/26 Giant

There were three of them and they weren't siblings and they weren't named Thompson. And Phil Collins once faxed his wife a divorce request.

Thompson Twins-Love on Your Side (beating out the other song, Phil Collins "That's All", sorry Hutch)

Rupert Holmes - Pina Colada

It was as awful as it sounds, particularly in frozen foods where, for some reason, the speakers are cranked to 11.
So I went to Giant and Whole Foods Sunday 9/30/18.

At Giant, I got 4-5 songs. The only one i could name was Chris Deburg's "Don't Pay the Ferryman." One of the worst songs in history. Whose idea was it to sell us garbage songs like this. The only people who could possibly like this songs are people with a bone to pick with Ferry Men, and Hutch.  ;D

Then I went to Whole Foods. Typically, my old man ears can't hear the music they play. But Whole Foods rescued the day by playing "uh Oh, Love Comes to Town", off of one of the greatest debut albums ever, Talking Heads 77,
Yeah…talking heads 77….damn it’s good

The only Chris deburg song I know is lady in red….a classic!!

when I was 12…I did love that song and video…but it has aged really poorly
Was really into Greek mythology at the time….so the video of the ferryman of Hades crossing the river Styx …to rock music…was major bonus points for the D&D nerd in me at the time

This is probably the best new thread since a Rolling Compendium of Integers: A Guide To Whole Numbers. A really staggering late-career renaissance by Space.

10/1/18 Avocados are one of the three foods that make me deathly ill (along with mussels and shitake mushrooms), so I avoid them. But my wife likes having them with Mexican food. Since I was making Mexican last night, she asked me to stop and get some avocados.

I opted to stop at Whole Foods. I picked up two avocados and some brie for later in the week, and while doing so, I heard:

The Replacements-Can't Hardly Wait
The bad new yesterday 10/3 was that I needed more pasta for my dinner recipe and there was no way of getting around it, I was going to have to take my kid to the grocery store. At least when I take her to a brewery, she doesn't beg for me to buy her everything in the place..

But the good news is of course I was going to get some Giant songs.

We walked in and they were playing "Mushaboom" by Feist. A good song off of her finest album. A strong candidate.

Three minutes later, the opening chords to Tom Petty's "The Waiting" kicked in and I knew we had a winner. Just as the chorus was kicking in, I heard a loony kid a few aisles over start singing along at the top of her lungs. "Some parent is probably gong to be mortified." I thought…..but then realized it was *my* kid. I wasn't sure whether to be embarrassed or proud.
That’s great

I'd be proud…if it was Katie Perry, I'd be mortified
Sunday, 10/7 Giant

First song I recognized was "Forever Man" by Eric Clapton. This one should be in a competition with half of the Billy Joel and all of the Phil Collins catalog for worst song ever. The synth line sounds like it was lifted form Jan Hammer's Miami Vice Theme.

If God isn't real, can we please get rid of Eric Clapton too?

I guess the best song was "And We Danced" by the Hooters. Nothing to write home about, but at least their legions of fans aren't claiming they are "God."
I do believe Phil Collins was involved with Forever Man and yes it is an atrocity

I was thinking about Eric Crapton this morning…god since about 1971 he has sucked and yet people worship him

BTW read his autobiography….you will loathe him after doing so…a horrible person
Errata: Phil Collins plays on and conproduced half of Behind the Sun but not Forever Man

Go Phil!

BTW Phil played Verizon Center Sunday…I was very sad to miss it …people I talked to after show said he is on last legs
Haddaway - What Is Love?
Steely Dan - Reeling in the Years

Hard call…
