In Which I Share With You the Best Song that Played as I Grocery Shopped

Another repeat…

Giant 10/20: Squeeze-Pulling Mussels from a Shell

I won't repeat my story of how i used to think this song was called Pulling Muscles for Michelle
10/23 Whole Foods

ELO-Mr. Blue Sky

I spent this whole song fantasizing about how low tickets prices will go on stubhub for their DC show after it undersells the arena.

In addition to my usual Saturday shopping, I was tasked with purchasing some nail polish remover. I haven't worn nail polish since 1997, so that was a tough find and kept me in store for some extra tunes.

The first two songs I heard were "I Don't Care Anymore" by Phil Collins and "I Go To Extremes" by Billy Joel. Has there ever been a worse double shot? Clearly the winner was the PSA for changing your smoke detector batteries. She had a sexy commanding voice.

Then, as i was struggling and getting upset because I couldn't find the nail polish remover, on came the soothing voice of Glen Frey doing the Jackson Browne classic "Take it Easy." And oh how much better I felt.

People like to shit on the Eagles, and surely they weren't in the same league as Gram Parsons, but what man can't identify with the idea of having seven women on his mind? Sometimes you're just feeling 1972.
I don’t care anymore is great!
Okay, so technically I was not grocery shopping, but I dressed as the Log Lady for Halloween and they played the soundtrack for me at Vigilante Coffee while I was there drinking it. Best. Day. Ever.

11/11 Tip of the hat to all of the Veterans out there. Giant

Prince-Delirious

So a few weeks ago I picked up 1999 and Purple Rain among a bunch of other CD's and books in a $10 last day box at a library book sale. Usually, there's some senior citizen dealer guy who has waited in line so that he can grab all of the DVD's and CD's before anyone else. So I lucked out.

I played 1999 on a long car ride last weekend. My kid's review: "Turn this garbage off." My wife's review: "Some music just doesn't age well." My review: "This is Prince's best album and it's awesome, and I'm the driver."
Nothing says respect for the troops quite like a shout-out in the midst of a rolling compendium of songs heard in a grocery store.

The Knack-My Sharona

Has ever a greater musical riff been written? I think not. We were dancing in the aisles of Giant.

A banner day for grocery store playlists.

First up was Giant. First song was the annoying Ballroom Blitz by Sweet.

But then, a sweet three song blast followed:

Television-See No Evil
The Cure-Lovesong
Talking Heads-This Must Be the Place

They were on such a roll, I didn't want to leave. But alas, I headed to Whole Foods for a few items, where I heard:

Johnny Cash-Walk the Line
Phosphorescent-New Birth in New England
