if you want to make excuses for ov, please cite better ones than dupuis and bill guerin is all i'm saying
and the caps certainly didnt lose this series because the habs have more talent. they lost because they were out coached and the habs wanted it more. some of the latter has to go on the captain and best player

There are no excuses to make for Ovie. He is one player on the team, granted he is the captain and the face of the organization. Unfortunately, in real life, it IS a team. he had 10 shots on goal and a bullshit goal taken away, the entire team looked completely deflated after the first period. There are no excuses, there is nothing anyone can say in defense of the Capitals and no one should. They were out-played in every way and I think it's horse shit that Ovie will get the blame for it and he will fall into Crosby's shadow. It's disgusting, Crosby had a TEAM a well rounded TEAM behind him, Ovie is part of an offensive machine and clearly, once again, our flaws were displayed in front of the entire league.
Maybe…maybe next season?

I love days like this on the board.
And even through all the gloating, this is the best point made thus far:

Dear Caps,
Dear Caps, please trade mike green and semin. Please develop a blue line and a playoff goalie. Sincerely, Mike

yeah from my view the two worst things about this is 1) have to face a hot goalie in the next round and 2) the caps might finally realize they have a terrible coach

There's a lot of assholes who buy into it, I've been saying since game 1 our defense needed to be worked on and once again, it bit us right in the ass.
As a single player, Ovie is clearly better, as a team player, it's Crosby. He is a little bitch though, face facts.

Oohhhh nice picks. Id nearly copy yours on the West but Im taking LA over San Jose. Granted I detest SJ more than most teams, but Nabokov – hahah glad hes not on the Kings.
San Jose in 6
Chicago in 5
LA in 6
Detroit in 5
LA in 6
Chicago in 5
Chicago sweeps LA - the part where I start bawling that the Kings arent going to the cup.
For the East:
Caps in 6
Jersey in 5
Boston in 7
Pitt in 5
Boston in 7
Jersey in 6
Boston over Jersey in 7 (showing how awesome tim thomas really is)
Hawks win the cup in 6.

I wouldn't be Ducks fan if I didn't bring this up. And being a decent gentleman, I did wait a few days….

I would never have the opportunity to hoist the Cup if I were a Sharks fan.

Epic fail, flail for the ages, choke of all chokes….yes.
But after stepping back from the ledge a bit I'm feeling better about the caps' future, considering the nucleus of players we have under age 25:
Ovechkin ? 24
Backstrom ? 22
Fehr ? 24
Gordon ? 25
Green ? 24
Schultz ? 24
Alzner ? 21
Carlson ? 20
Varly ? 22
Neuvirth ? 22
And a few more just over 25. This team needs tweaking for sure. In the offseason we lock up Backstrom, get a legit 2nd line center, blah blah blah.
I'm just sayin, more to make myself feel better than anything else, this is a young team with a lot of miles ahead.
Right? RIGHT????
That said, I'd be happy right now if Semin, Green and Fleishman never wore red again. But considering they were complete no-shows for this series their street value is way low.
Meh.

Matching: Pick the matching items from Group A and Group B.
Group A
Defense wins championships.
Offense puts fans in the seats.
Group B
Caps had massive fan turn out.
Caps went out in the first round of the play offs.

I is a Flyers fan and have been since the mid 70s. Truth be told I was really surprised they won the 1st round series. If everyone plays like they did in round 1 they can make it a little further. We shall see.

the pens definitely owe one - probably several - to the caps. last night, montreal looked like a team that has just come off a 7-game series in which they gave it all. tank was pretty damn empty.
pens in 5.

The Bruins / Flyers are both playing a bit above their fans expectations perhaps! I cant believe the B's are scoring and winning home games. As much trash as i would like to talk if Boston wins the series…its hard when theres no Carter, Gagne and Lappy. Game 1 was the best playoff game of the year so far in my opinion so i am excited for tonight…and they said the other series would be the fun one!
